USS Enterprise sails into final voyage

There is also the shameful and sordid tale of the USS Olympia.   

Several years back, the guy in charge of it, embezzled the funds to maintain this 120 year old, very historic ship.  At one point, they couldn't find anyone to pay for keeping it afloat.  The Navy couldn't get appropriations to take it on, so there was serious discussion of sinking her as a coral reef. 

After all, the Spanish American War has long ago lost its constituency. 

Recently, a group in South Carolina has taken up the cause, and is looking to move her from Philadelphia to Port Royal S.C.  Hope this works, as the ship is apparently in very bad shape.
