I'm looking forward to this game.  Not sure how it will play out but based on the screenies and chatter on the forums I think Commander: TGW is a better game than Strategic Command Great War.  At least for my tastes anyways.  YMMV.

You compare two games when one isn't out yet?

^I admit I'm judging the one that hasn't come out yet based on it's screenshots but take a look at the elements.  The research tree seems ideally complex in Commander: TGW as well as how trench warfare is handled. 

The proof will be actually playing the game of course but when I tried the demo for Strategic Command Great War it felt like one of those iPad strategy games.

I will say that they are different games, and I enjoy both. I hope you will, too.

One thing I'd really like to point out, it how professional the Lordz are, and beta testing for them has been a very rewarding experience. They truly value their beta testers' comments and suggestions, and take them to heart. Great group of guys.

Can you tell us if it plays at 1920x1080 resolution? I seem to recall the old game being stuck at a lower res.

An all new engine, supporting any display resolution from 1024×600 upwards and includes full wide screen support.

I must say that, if TGW is as good as the latest CEAW-GS patch, I'll be impressed.

i didn't like CEAW much but damn this one looks tempting.

Just played through my first eight turns and although I did not absorb close to everything on the screen, I did not feel overwhelmed at all. I am playing the 1914 scenario, I've learned how to do research, I've learned how to deploy fresh units, and I had Paris taken from me by probing German cavalry. I do have infantry units nearby ready to retake Paris though. Belgium is also being "raped" as it was historically.

In the Balkans I am holding off the Austro-Hungarians and in Russia the war is fluid, as it was historically.

The Lordz made this game truly absorbing and engaging...hard to really express how though. I am always intimidated when plunging into a 'real' wargame for the first time but I did not feel that here. The game felt like it wanted me to play it :) I am being sucked in.

One question: for the first campaign are players automatically assigned to the Allies? I wanted to play as the Central Powers but never got a chance to choose...

^You must've missed it.  Selecting Entente vs Central Powers is on the same screen where you select the AI level and year scenario...
