Rainbow 6 - didnt realise they were so cheap on steam - which one to get

Ok, so the men of war vietnam choice didnt go down to well

Whilst waiting for Ground Branch or Takedown i did some looking around for other good squad based shenanigans and found these on Steam. Not only did i not know how many there were but also how cheap they were - is there a 'best' of the 'rest'? the one to get, or are they all as good as each other?

This is the series that started it all.  Nobody had done authentic military themed tactical shooters from the FPS standpoint before R6.  I'll always remember the cardboard cutout of an operator in the Babbages storefront at the mall. It was love at first sight.  I'd say they are all worth owning, except for Lockdown.  Ravenshield has some pretty impressive mods and still has a fairly loyal following.  Vegas and Vegas 2 are not as realistic or team-based as the original and Ravenshield, but still solid titles both.

I'm not as schooled on R6 as JH, but I always like the original R6.  There's one that has an airliner hijacked scenario- not sure which one it is now- and I never got far enough into the campaign to get to it.  I always thought it would be kick ass to figure out how exactly you take the tangos down in an airliner without them lighting up all the passengers.

Really, you can't go wrong with the original, Raven Shield, or that other one that was with those three...

Ok, just checked on Steam- I'd go with R6 Gold for $10.  That is a huge amount of gaming for $10.  You won't be finished quickly or easily!  I may pick this up just so I don't have to drag out the CDs anymore.

Any early titles with complex pre-planning.   Later titles became conventional shooters.

While I don't want to start an FPS smack-down, IMHO Seal Team by EA was the first in this category as it featured "realistic" weapon loadouts, weapon performance (for it's time, anyways), mission type, team management, mission planning, and damage model.

Otherwise I agree with the bmgm (big mean green Marine).

Also its fair number of bugs (not just the floating kind out in the weeds) and a completely insane air support system.

Still loved playing it, for several months.

What about one of the SWAT titles? (Developed from the Police Quest series.) I kind of recall one of those being released before R61, and while SWAT isn't military per se their assault tactics are extremely similar.
