Jim, my comments were directed at BGG and Matrix (I had just read the Matrix post calling me a sociopath). I wouldn't be posting here if I didn't like this forum. I have a lot of respect for the people who run Grogheads as well as the people who participate. I feel like I learn a lot of interesting things without having to go through the histrionics that pollute other game forums.

Thanks again for allowing me to post here. I'm just a scribe. It's folks like you and Brant who keep the hobby going.

I agree with you that it is a minor miracle that FP is running an article about wargames.

Grogs being grogs, I'm not exactly shocked that the reception in some communities was less than helpful. By our nature we tend to have our druthers and don't take kindly to opposing viewpoints.

That said, I think you need to look at each community and how it's run before passing wholesale judgement.

I can't speak to BGG as I don't frequent it much. Two years ago Matrix was a very different forum and run far more constructively than it is today.

I trust your reception here was warm. We're small but growing. Our intent is to foster a community where opposing viewpoints can be exchanged sans personal confrontation. It's an imperfect world and we're imperfect moderators, but in general that is our goal. Hopefully you found us an exception to your otherwise largely unsuccessful quest. If not let us know either openly or in backchannel discussions (whatever is most comfortable). We'll do our best to accommodate.

Kayoz, the threat over at Matrix is closed, so i respond to you here  :)
...
Ahh, u went down the old worn out  'your are racist' track  ::)

a Pally/ a Hamas supporter / an Islamist is not a race, its an idiological mindset.
i give a damn about The Enemy fighter's eye-, hair-, skin- color or protein-composition as long as they start throwing blisters and turns black as fast as possible in a blast

Do i hate The Enemy? Sure!,
Do i sleep good at night if some Hamas voters, who called it all upon themself in 2006, have a hard time now? Yes.

come on Kayoz, cry me a river
gave anybody a damn about the blank children of Tokyo or Dresden, No!
Do you think some Pally kids now are more worth then any others lost in conflicts and especially those who get hit by a Quassam rocket ?
well, that maybe your racism ;-)

Kayoz, Pallys did Munich and ruined our German once-in-my-lifetime Olympics  (i didn't forget), Pally's did the Landshut (i didn't forget) Pallys bedded with 'Bader Meinhof' (i didn't forget) Pallys celebrated in the streets on 911 (i didn't forget) and 'Pallys', we were so stupid to let in our fine country as refugees now attack ppl. daring to wearing a kippah in the streets of Berlin nowadays (i dont forget)
No remorse No regret

I don't know where you got the idea that I asked for a debate. I wasn't looking for a spirited exchange on the Balfour Declaration or the Hamas Charter. What I asked for was constructive suggestions from people who play wargames on how to make a better wargame.

Thanks for responding to me, the idea may have come from (a possible misinterpretation of) the opening posts :

Matrix

Foreign Policy Magazine has agreed to sponsor a public playtest of Paul Rohrbaugh's Gaza wargame, "Reign of Missiles". This is a first for FP (possibly for any influential magazine), so we're hoping to get input from the wargame community. If you can spread the word on this, that would help. This is an experiment, and if it works, we might get other wargames on FP. http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2012/11/27/launch_your_own_gaza_war

BGG

Paul Rohrbaugh is playtesting a game on the recent Israel-Hamas conflict, and he has generously allowed Foreign Policy Magazine to sponsor a public playtest. This is a first for FP, and we'd like the wargame community to participate. You can find the files at http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2012/11/27/launch_your... Leave your suggestions in the Comments section there, or send them to me at michael.peck1@gmail.com We will post the best suggestions later.

My emphasis in both, which seem to be asking for input and suggestions about the game rather than an analysis of the game mechanics.

Maybe if you had cut and pasted the first paragraph from the article

Wargame designer Paul Rohrbaugh has just created a board game based on the recent Israel-Hamas conflict. He is playtesting "A Reign of Missiles" to tweak the rules, and he wants your suggestions on how to improve it.

the intent might have been clearer, though the response may have been the same.

Anyway one possible tweek for the game itself - probably better to have a single MVP track with the Hamas and Israeli MVP markers on the same track. Makes it easier at a glance to see who is ahead and by how much. The new version of the map is also a significant graphic improvement.

Another thought, maybe Diplomacy should be renamed Political Will or Endurance as it seems to be more a measure of a sides ability/willingness to commit force rather than their external diplomatic relations (which may though still be one factor in such ability/willingness)

Also why the odd numbering sequence in 4.1 surely a sequence of 0 to 2, 3, 4 or 5, 6 or 7, 8, 9 would make more sense

Ah, I see the confusion.  I assumed that grognards would know that input meant game suggestions. I guess this is the downside of a wargamer writing about wargames.

WOW!  What a DOUCHE!!!  Have an opinion.  Express your opinion.  Be as calm or worked up as you want to be, but, say what you have to say and move along Kayoz.
Those of us in the Distant Worlds forums over at Matrix are quite...familiar with Kayoz.  I'm a little surprised he showed up outside of there.

just out of curiosity, did you post this over at SWJ?

He is on a roll in this thread too about another potential game....I don't mind people with different opinions and thoughts, but this person spews nothing but anger and confrontation....there is no fun in discussing matters with a person like this.   I am glad this community is much more inviting and allows for constructive discussions versus personal crud.

Limit Theory looks pretty good, and the 7 minutes and 50 second video is quite impressive.  Not sure why is trashing the developer.  Seems very unfair and unreasonable.

As would a lot of folks...and not just from here.

Problem is, I honestly almost think he'd enjoy that.

He reminds me a little of ghostryder...except that GR is only a know-it-all on certain subjects, and is generally a decent fellow when he's not pontificating.

In contrast, Kayoz believes himself to be an expert on virtually all subjects, and usually acts like a complete tool regardless.
