Is anyone else playing this game?  It's extremely addictive and I can barely stop myself from retrying levels after being killed over and over and over again.  The music also happens to be remarkable for an 8-bit title.

Yes... I have been playing it and the soundtrack it sweet....  It has very addicting gameplay.  I like it because I can pick it up and play it for a couple of minutes or longer and have the same amount of enjoyment from it.

How is the game actually like?
Is there anything more to it than just shooting masses of identical enemies with a limited selection of weaponry?

Yes.  A LOT more. The game is broken down into levels.  your mission on each level is simple...kill everything that moves.  Enemies are armed with anything, ranging from a knife, to a sword, to a glass bottle, to a baseball bat, to a pipe, to a shotgun, to an assault rifle, etc. etc. The list goes on.  Some enemies stand in place, while others move around randomly, while others still, move around in predictable pattern patrols.  As you kill enemies, they drop their weapons which you can then use to throw, stab, slash, hack, bludgeon or blow away more enemies.  Firearms alert everybody though, so its best to sneak about for as long as possible.

Once you're detected, you better be ready to kill, because enemies move extremely fast and swarm at you for the kill.  The player unavoidably dies frequently and violently, but it is very fun, never gets old and you can restart from the last checkpoint virtually instantly with a press of the 'R' key.

You have to plan your attacks very strategically and time them exactly.  Its a really hard game...but very very rewarding. Bashing someone with a bat or slashing them in half with a katana never seems to get old.

Actually, the game is not about shooting masses of enemies with limited weaponry. If anything, the game is more of a stealth and timing puzzle than a combat game. You have to time your attack right to make sure you don't get hit first, to hit the enemy with a door, or to sneak up on them from behind. Timing is critical and combat is almost secondary (hit button multiple times) to the stealth and planning portion of the game. When one man goes down, all the others that hear him (and if you fire a gun, everyone in the house) will come to his aid, and you die with one hit, so you have to careful and cautious.

Going in like Smash TV will undoubtedly fail miserably. I would say this is closer to an overhead version of Thief. Very cool game, strange storyline going on underneath, however.

And I see JH and I cross-posted about the same thing. Fun and rewarding game is totally right!
