Hey Queeg, that seems to work! Awesome!

But now I can't remember what power plan I had on before. I think it was Balanced, as High Performance is a power suck when not in use.
"Now it is no accident all these conservatives are using time travel to teach our kids. It is the best way to fight back against the liberal version of history, or as it is sometimes known... history."

"The purpose of religion is to answer the ultimate question, are we in control or is there some greater force pulling the strings? And if the courts rule that corporations have the same religious rights that we humans do, I think we'll have our answer."

I don't know what it is about this game but I really like it.  It's freaking relaxing.  The combat is cool.  The city upgrading is well done.  The event text quests can be quite humorous.  The discovery zones scare the crap out of me to attack if they aren't the often repeated discoveries like ancient ruins.  I had a mermaid brought to my court and appareantly it's offensive to mermaids to offer to let them live in your fountain.  Who knew?

I need to play this some more, because I haven't had any text event quests yet. Actually, this is probably going to get some play while I step away from Bioware stuff for a few days.  :D

I received the following suggestions from GOG regarding my reproducible CTD:

Quote1) Please make sure that you use "Run as Administrator" to install and to start the game (right click on the shortcut or setup file and select "Run as Administrator").

2) Please reinstall the game to a simpler path (like: C:\Games).

3) Install the June 2010 DirectX runtime package, then use the DirectX web installer, as your current DirectX may have become corrupt over time.

You can find the ZIP file containing the 2010 package installation files here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=3b170b25-abab-4bc3-ae91-50ceb6d8fa8d

You will have to extract the files into some folder, then open that folder and launch the DXSETUP.exe file in order to proceed with the installation.

Afterwards, download the latest DirectX web installer and use it as well:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

4) Please update your graphics card drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

5) Please try DxWnd to make the game work in windowed mode:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/

None of them worked.  At Geek's suggestion I also tried reinstalling and that didn't work either.  In the end I put it down to a corrupt save and started again.  That's fine in practise since I wasn't far into the tutorial, but obviously dreadful in principle, especially considering the way this game handles saves.  If I'd lost a lot of time to this bug I think the red mist would have descended.

Masters of the Broken World had better be 100% Win7-64 compatible.

Yeah pretty much sums up the overall responses to the issue people are having.  Here's a bunch of mumbo jumbo to try and fix the game.  It's not the hardware or the OS.  It's something to do with how the game is coded.

That's my feeling too.  I'm not a developer so I won't pretend to claim it's anyone's fault in particular, but I won't accept any excuses with the remake due in 2013.

The really odd thing is that it is not an across the board issue.  Like I've said, my laptop Win7 64 bit with an i5 cpu has no issues at all with the game.  Unfortunately I doubt this one will be fixed, which is too bad, with all efforts being put into the new version.

Got some time with the game this weekend and I am extremely impressed.  I did notice that Das has started a let's play http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGB6RkFB7ZmN2C5trwaPgdVMzh5JjgIfh  He also has a how to stop lag video.....

Does anyone know if we can apply the new patch ourselves? Or do we have to re-download the game from GOG.com and reinstall it?
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

I applied the patch directly with no issue.

Have been really impressed with this title.... so much so, I have not been playing Fallen Enchantress.

I was hoping the patch would address the Win7-64 issues but there's no mention of it in the notes.  Oh well, I haven't had an issue since I started again, at least.

Go to your GOG account.... My Games.... then click on Eador.  You will see a list of downloads and you should have the Universal Update 2.0.1  1mb link listed.  Click on it and it should start the download.
