Dark Souls for PC

I could not resist the pull of this one on sale at Steam. Reviews are mixed...there is a lot of online complaining about its control setup for PC and a lot of whining about it's difficulty. Before I dive in and get killed 1000 times:

a. Is it worth dropping some money on a XBox 360 type controller for this?
b. How difficult have you found it?

a. I haven't played it, but probably. But then I'm so used to playing that type of game with a controller that I find it nearly impossible to play them otherwise.

From what I understand it's unplayable with a mouse and keyboard.  Since it's unlikely I'd use the controller with anything else, that makes it a non-starter for me.

I had a thread up around here somewhere re: Dark Souls.  But the short answers to your questions are:
Yes, you absolutely will need a controller to play the game.
It is very, very hard and although fun, a bit frustrating.  The combat is very fluid, but the game is just plain difficult.
