Ok - I am suffering from a little trepidation for this - though a bit excited.

I've never built a tank before...always aircraft...but I do LOVE the Challenger 2 so I've taken a chance with this. I did get the cheaper option as I've never done one in case I balls it up - the Tamiya one was about £40!

I promise I will finish my P-40 before I start this.

I buy most of my models from Hannants - BUT - it really annoys me that you can't find out what paints are required. I know people might want to make different makes - but as is this model, it's a specific model on a specific theatre - so they could tell me what paints to use. As it is, I had to guess!

trumpeter makes very good kits and are just about at the level of tamyia without the price.
if you havent found it yet I recommend checking out http://missing-lynx.com .  lots of tips and tricks for the armor modeler.

Very Cool JD.. Tanks are great, cause if you screw up.. just hide it with weathering!!!  :o

What are the white panels on the turret front? Don't think I've seen those on a Challenger 2 before.

My guess would be add on armour panels to protect against RPGs fired from higher up, such as in multi-story buildings. At that angle all sloping benefit would be lost.

I think I just found it, they're CIPs ( Combat Identification Panels or Coalition Identification Panels).
