Interesting find. Still, it looks as if the CIPs are louvered. The panels on the Challenger's turret front are smooth. The side ones look to match the CIP design though

I think they just painted the louvered vents on the side and rear for ID purposes. The panels on the front are flat, and must be add-ons.
Learn something new and all that...

Question for anyone who has made an AFV

When do you melt the tracks?

It's not totally clear in the instructions - one minute your putting the wheels on, the next picture has the track on. So - do you melt the track to stick them together and then "stretch" it over the wheels, or do you put the track on the wheels and then melt the connections together?

silly rabbit...
you get modelkasten metal tracks and pin the tracks together so they sag right.
with plastic track you do the bottom first and then go up around the drive sprocket in individual steps.
the you do the top run and any errors get corrected around the main return roller.

I could only find these for the Challenger 2... http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/AB3523 ...which look fine on the box (black pads) but I found this... http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/bronco/ab3523.html ... which shows painting (alot) required

Way too much work - especially from a painting pov. I don't have a spray gun remember so each of these pieces (and pads) would have to be individually painted!

I think I'll stick with the stock track for my first attempt. It is only a Trumpeter version...besides I'm nto really into modelling (at the moment) the way the hard core go...I'm quite happy with "out the box" models and the best paint job I can give it. I don't do 100% accuracy, I don't do competition modelling and I don't do "additions"...but never say never..just not now.

I've never done an AFV - I don't want to be put off doing more by connecting 504 little parts together.

But thanks for the info. I will keep it in mind should I get the urge to do more with my models...but tbh I'll be lucky if this turns out nice anyway. I got the box today and there is MUCH more detail to it that a WWII aircraft. It's going to take some time

I didn't know Modelkasten made Metal tracks now? When I was modeling it was Fruilmodel or something like that.. very expensive, but the were very cool!!!

Gotta get that airbrush Judge, it's a whole next step in the hobby!

no no, modelkasten are still all plastic. the metal picture is fruil.
