And this is probably the most irritating bug in WotR for me.  After a few rounds, it goes psychedelic!  Probably my video card but it only happens in this game.  Other people are experiencing this as well and they still don't fix it.

I used to get something very much like that in LOTRO when I played it on my old Nvidia 8800GTS, after playing for an hour or two and it was always fine after a restart - for awhile.   :-[

I can already tell that I'm gonna enjoy War of the Roses more than Chivalry.  It definitely has a lot more guts to it.   While Chivalry feels like a fancy mod, WotR definitely has it's own style.

I especially like how WotR's movement isn't constant running full speed.  So while the circle strafing is (and always will be) there, it's not so ignorantly fast that you have to constantly swing your view around at blazing speeds to aim and block, which can get pretty annoying in Chivalry.   We shouldn't have to crank our mouse sensitivity up to 11 in order to perform better.  ::)

Loving the customization options - there are a lot!  I should've known that I'd like WotR better after people started saying it had more strategic team-oriented gameplay.  :D

I've been having hellish issues trying to connect with the polearms.  They need to make the contact zone on the head bigger, or something.

I even experienced it on the receiving end.  Some poor guy had the better of me and kept swinging away - not at point blank range - and it did absolutely nothing but go right through me.  I realize that the chopping head needs to connect but they must've made them insanely tiny.

Also... weapon range is way too short for what it should be.   Even stabbing with polearms and spears feels like you gotta be right up on them.  I think if they adjusted the weapon hit zones in these two cases, it would do a lot of good.

After playing many hours on both Chivalry and WOTR last night and this morning in addition to many more hours in the last week and a half,  for me personally the gameplay boils down to two items.  Melee combat is much better with more weight and impact to the weapons in Chivalry than in WOTR. Conversely, for me ranged combat while playing as an archer is much more fleshed out and satisfying in WOTR. I do love the execution mode in WOTR, however. The coup de grace is very satisfying.

So, if your forte is long-range combat as an archer go for WOTR. If melee combat is the only thing you're into, I'd pick Chivalry, hands down. Again, just my own personal experience. I'm interested in hearing more opinions from the rest of you as you get more time in both games. I've got to say though, I'm having more fun with both of these games than anything I've played in years. In fact, my other games are suffering due to this fact. I may become addicted. I don't think anyone here would be the least bit sorry if they purchased both games. Like I said before they both complement each other in different and satisfying ways.

I just read about the Melee combat beta update they've been working on.  From the tester scuttlebutt, it has improved melee quite a bit so that it doesn't take as long to kill people (all while you're being shot in the back repeatedly by their buddies).

That's a good thing since, right now, the archers have it pretty easy with their 1- and 2- hit kills without having to worry much about hacking away repeatedly at their enemies.  It's quite an archer-fest, and would be even worse if we didn't have to bit right up next to a flag (in the open) to cap 'em.

I hope the devs get back from their holiday vacations and get this beta "balancing" update up & released ASAP.  This is a fun game, but the aforementioned imbalances are getting frustrating.

The archers and the squad spawning are definitely starting to wear badly on my nerves.

I was way wrong on the squad spawning.  It sucks big time.

Friggin' archers though...last night was a perfect example.  We were on one of those big winter maps.  I'm in full-on knight outfit on my barded warhorse.  Come up on an opponent in the same stuff.  We go toe to toe joust and I knock him off his horse and kill the horse, while I'm still mounted.  So, I could have just did a loop, came around and lanced him down, but I thought I'd do the chivalrous thing and so I hop off my horse to go melee with him.  We approach, I'm about to swing...and then I'm one-shotted by some farking sissy archer.  And then the other knight executes me!

God, that pissed me off!

Every time I fire it up, within minutes I'm reminded of how much more fun I have when I play Chivalry.

I hate, hate, hate the squad leader spawn in WOR.  It's so stupid to just have random guys teleporting in behind you as you mill about point C or something.  Also, I've noticed a trend where some teams will rotate squad leader so you can't even target the squad leader in a group based on name as they keep switching out.

@Toonces:  Talk about realism.
I wonder how many cap a pie outiftted knight went to
Heaven muttering "frackin' archers!".
Those pesky Welsh/English archers were the foundation
of the beloved libertarian ideal.  That and the fact that the
English nobility chopped each other up for sport.
Maybe I have to buy it.  It is about the only game I did not buy
this xmas.

Instead of complaining about archers easily killing you, Just go and kill every archer you see.  Take your horse, go flank them and bash them in the head.  Very satisfying to kill many archers in quick succession. When you focus on archers, your K/D ratio will increase.

In conquest maps, archers are useless.  They don't help in capturing so I do the smart thing and just get out of their way and concentrate on capturing.  It is very easy to turn an enemy flag to neutral so exploit that opportunity.  When you know your team are about to cap a base, go to the next already without waiting for full cap.

Ah, but gentlemen, let us not forget and appreciate what the English Longbowmen did to the French in the glorious slaughter at Agincourt!

Oh, I definitely kill me some archers when they're close enough.  The problem being that it can take awhile to speed up and if you block or swing, you'll start moving at creeping speed again all while they're shooting at you.

I actually like that we can't take off instantly full-speed, unlike many other first-person games .  But when archers can one- and two-shot you, and it takes a long time to get up to speed, along with melee taking forever if they're halfway decent at blocking, they have a huge advantage from the start (in the open areas and when having to climb ladders).  That's why they're working on the "Rebalance" fixes, and the archery stuff is being left as-is.

I read something about the melee combat in the beta being a fair bit faster to resolve - still not of Chivalry proportions where 2 hit kills are the norm.  That's what's needed.

Even now, I'm preferring WotR to Chivalry.  As I said, Chivalry just feels like some hollow first-person shooter mod hackfest.  I also regularly get pissed off when my shield doesn't seem to block what it looks like it should in Chiv;  perhaps it's something to do with their hit detection mixed with latency but what I see on my screen seems to be a bit off in timing hits sometimes, even with good ping.   While I still fire up Chivalry for some short spouts of head-lopping, the gameplay is, as I saw someone relate it, more "like Unreal Tournament in a medieval setting" which I never really enjoyed much.  I'm far happier with WotR overall, despite the difficulty of the Mount & Blade-style combat controls.

Well, the second part of that post would be that I will go after archers any time I see them, even if it means I die in the process.  Nothing is more satisfying than instakilling some archer, especially if it's the guy that just shot you, which I did repeatedly last night.

In Chivalry timing is key.  Holding the shield (turtling) forever like in WotR may not block successfully.  You need to press block at the right time and put the dot in the right place.  It's all about timing.

LOL yeah.  Archer killing is fun, when it works out.

I have the bad habit of being targeted by numerous ones when I come rushing in, though, so my life expectancy can be rather short in those cases.  ;D

I think part of my problem is that I have to use the second 3rd-person view option (the one close-up directly behind the head) because the first-person view makes me motion sick after a short time in Chivalry.  So perhaps there's some disconnect between animations and/or aiming in that view?  I actually seem to be able to parry a bit better than block with a shield, oddly enough.  :(
