Great job Con.  I just finished my Central Powers game.  It was the one where my Italian front completely fell apart and Munich got captured.  I was able to recover thanks to Bulgaria's help which sent a bunch of reserve units (garrisons) to plug the holes.  I continued to play the game therefor.

The western front continued to be a brutal nightmare for me but I finally figured out how to rotate units in and out and got some sense into me regarding withdrawals.  Sometimes it's better to fall back to the second line of defense then to stubbornly not give an inch only to lose everything.  At any rate I stabilized the western front and bought some time.  Somehow, and I can't remember exactly how I did it but I managed to rip the Russians to shreds all from a combined Turkish and Bulgarian offensive into Odessa.  This was after Rumania fell which I found to be a pushover.  Since Russia didn't have anything guarding Moldavia I just walked right in.  As a result I forced the entire eastern front to collapse and in December of 1917 Russia surrendered.

Once I got all those units to the Italian and Western fronts I was able to turn the tide.  Most of the Bulgarian army headed for the Turkish Syrian border where the UK offensive into Turkey had stalled.  Those extra troops Bulgaria gave were enough to encircle the UK forces and drive all the way back to Damascus before the game ended on turn 118.  I won a marginal victory.  Curiously the US never entered the war but I must admit I only had one uboot prowling around and he only sunk maybe a total of 10 or 11 merchant points.  I didn't get the Lusitania event until early 1918 so maybe that is what kept the US out of the war.

Now I need to patch this game and give it another whirl.  Anybody have a chance to play with the new patch?  I'm kind of reluctant to put it in now that I have finally figured out this game.

I was actually making steady progress on the West Front (into Germany in 1916!) as the allies but with all the other games I bought lately, I haven't fired it up to finish it.  :(

I suspect a lot of other people are in the same boat.

Nicely done!  I started a game with the new patch, after not playing for a while, and promptly got my rear handed to me very early.

Just started my second game after the patch.  (The first was a disaster and so we won't speak of it)  In this game both the East and West front have stabilized through the first winter.  I even managed to take back Antwerp after losing it early in the game.  The Turks just entered the war and I am holding my own at the Suez canal although they are starting to eat up Russian territory.

I desperately held my Serbian line intact but in the last couple of turns it has begun to crumble and I don't think it will hold out much longer.  I may need to withdraw it and forum a new line around the capital.


Hopefully I can keep it up and the Central powers don't achieve any major breakthroughs.
