Finally got around to downloading the newest (to me) update to The Third Age mod for MTW.  I have not played it since 2.1 and it has blown me away the amount of polish and effort that has gone into this mod.  I have started a campaign as Rohan and Isengard has been a pain in the backside......  mmmm Orc Bacon.

You sir are a sultry temptress. I have been waiting to start a Third Age campaign after rewatching the movies over Christmas.Think I may play as Isengard.

Isengard is tough to play. I can capture thier capitol playing as Rohan in a few turns even with the garrison script active.

The 3.1 version I play and it's got some real hidden edges to it. There are several AI cheats supposed to make it harder to beat the AI. A number of regions spawn additional units for the AI when you attack them. Look to their info screen for a little green lore book in the upper left corner and read it. It will tell if the AI gets this boost before you attack. Also AI factions will get a recruitment boost when down to their last 2 regions, resulting in a whole bunch of new enemies showing-up when you expect them to be losing strength. Their are also a number of recruitable special units available in certain spots. As Rhun, I found Giant Spiders in Mirkwood. The AI is very good and I would caution against playing on the Hard difficulity level until your really ready. But it is the best TATW mod I've played.

Third Age was by far my favorite mod on any game ever!  I am hoping when Rome II TW comes out they decide to mod that into the LOTR universe. :)  That or they should just make a LOTR TW.  8)

I agree.  Even years ago Third Age was a great mod.  I haven't played it in about 2 years.

Just waiting for ROME II TW.  There can't be an official Third Age because of copyrights.  The mod was okay because it was not for profit.

Fortunately, we have an official Warhammer Total War game on the way.

One supposes the flaming pigs will finally seem reasonable to include.

Nice find :)

How are the other mods for MTW2? How well do they like to be on steam?
I have had some problems making some mods work for Empire.

There are tons of other mods MTW2 and most of the newer ones play well with Steam.

Stainless Steel and Broken Crescent are two mods for Medieval 2 that are widely praised.  Not sure how well they work on Steam, but given their popularity, odds are good that they do.
