I haven't played with another GH'er so far, so if you're looking only to play with folks you know, this isn't the game for you.

Before buying though I want to take a measure of the longevity WotR ahs with the guys here...I don't want to play with strangers.

The gaming population of WotR is quite small so there's a big chance of bumping into someone you know. :)
I don't know about longevity though, they seem to be continuously improving the game despite the low player count.
