Russia's military acted in an "unnecessarily provocative" manner when its aircraft circled a Canadian ship in the Black Sea on Sunday, says Canada's minister of national defence.

"The acts perpetrated by Russia were unnecessarily provocative and are likely to increase tensions further," said Rob Nicholson in a written statement, saying it did not matter if the aircraft circling HMCS Toronto had posed no threat.

I have to ask, is there a historical precedent for pressing your opponent by denying food to your own people? I mean really, did they come up with that in a drunken stupor? I realize it is supposed to show will. Will for what though? Treating your own people like shit?

If the EU brought in more expensive fuel from elsewhere, that would correctly show will. They incur a cost to themselves while NOT hurting their people AND denying revenue to the opponent.

Also what is the long term gain for Russia? More land? Is that really what is holding back their society? I have to think this is a distraction from their corruption and misery. If you are incompetent in dealing with a problem, change the subject.
