Combined with this:

I'd say there's food for thought.

It left out Georgia and the Sudetenland analogy.
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.

We can all agree that these are creepy times.

There's little in the way of an alternative.

Russkies are already preparing propaganda for not stopping their aggression, by blaming the "some" Western countries, particularly naming the US, for undermining the "agreement".
Remember folks, this is not just about Ukraine. It is about Russia trying to undermine the NATO alliance. You cannot compromise with Russians. Anyone who thinks that they know better and that there is a possibility of some political compromise short of total capitulation is fooling themselves. So yeah, its gonna get much more creepier.

Thats because they're closer to the toilet.
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

With all respect to the position he held, I see no clear advise in his position. 'Do not send weapons because Russia will take it further than us.'  Ok, so they take Ukraine. Then it's on to the next grab, probably the Baltics if Ukriane was a walk in the park. Same advise 'they will go furtherthan we can handle'. wash, rinse, repeat.

It sounds to me like he is willing to let Russia re-take all the old Soviet territory. Then what?

Many finance managers climb the heirarchy by being good at warning about how things will go wrong. They generally never have any ideas of what can work.

Having a "discussion" will not stop Russian weapons. What matters is capability. NATO needs the capability to crush Russian agression at it's eastern border. End of story. Weapons to Ukraine, once that is in place, may or may not prevent Eastern NATO from getting trashed. Debate that if you like.

He says what I've been saying that this is no longer about Ukraine. This what we get by not reacting to the first Russian aggression on Georgia. There is no political solution to this, apart from capitulation, and unraveling of NATO with all its terrible consequences. Western leaders need to seriously man up, or things are going to get worse. West needs start providing weapons to Ukraine  without saying we are providing weapons. Russia is rubbish when it fight alone.
