A MULE spiritual heir from Stardock!  I already love it!

QuoteOffworld Trading Company is a real-time strategy game in which money, not firepower, is the player's weapon. Players found a company on Mars and compete against other companies looking to become the economic power on the planet.

Loosely inspired by such classics as M.U.L.E., Offworld Trading Company forces players to make tough choices on what resources to acquire, what goods to build and sell, how to interact with the planet's thriving underworld, and when and what stocks to acquire.

Players compete against up to seven other AI- or player-controlled companies. The game is won when one player ultimately acquires all the shares of their competitors, thereby wresting control of the entire planet's economy for the winner.

Been far too long since we had such an economics-based sci-fi game.  If it is a cross between MULE and Run for the Money (synannas!), it is an instant buy for me!  :)
"As I understand from your communication, Mr. Engle, you're on the brink of self-destruction. May I shake your hand? A brilliant idea! I speak as one who has destroyed himself a score of times.  I am, Mr. Engle, a veteran corpse. We are all corpses here! This rendezvous is one of the musical graveyards of the town. Caters to zombies hopping around with dead hearts and price tags for souls." - Angels Over Broadway

Capitalism 2 is one of my all time favorite games. I like deep, complex economic sims..and there just scarce as any genre you can name.

I like it too. I just wish they'd redo the interface for modern rigs. I can play it in compatibility mode, but it plays really really fast on very slow. I guess I'll have to try using moslo or similar with it?
The most shocking fact about war is that its victims and its instruments are individual human beings, and that these individual beings are condemned by the monstrous conventions of politics to murder or be murdered in quarrels not their own. Aldous Huxley

On a good day, our legislature has the prestige of a drunk urinating on a wall at 4am and getting most of it on his shoe. On a good day  ::) Steelgrave

It's kind of silly to investigate whether or not a Clinton is lying. That's sort of like investigating why the sky is blue. Banzai_Cat

This is releasing today. It is looking like it is going to be pretty good.

It's on at a 25% discount on Steam...

I'll probably wait a bit until there is a better sale price, but it does look a great game. O0

If people band together they can get a 4-pack for $60 at the moment. Right now on the Quarter to Three forums there are 2 people looking for 2 more to go in on a 4-pack. Will be the 3rd one in that thread in the past day.

Has anyone taken the plunge and purchased / played Offworld Trading Company yet? Its description states, in part: "An economic strategy game by Civilization IV lead designer, Soren Johnson." If it's anything like Civilization IV, I should like it. But after watching this video, I'm not so sure:

Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

I have, only gone through the tutorial missions so far. My current take is that you'll be sorely disappointed comparing to civ 4.
Not that it is a bad game, just nothing like it. Overall game play seems quicker, where you can complete a game in one sitting. Also it seems to be limited in victory conditions (basically buy out all your competitors)
I think I liken it more to Big Pharma more than civ or even capitalism...although if they add content it might reach the level of the latter
Insert witty comment here.

Thanks for the reply. I keep reading how great Offworld Trading Company is when I visit another internet forum I frequent, but when I watched a video of the gameplay I really wasn't all that impressed. Seeing Soren Johnson's name had a very positive impact on me but lately Stardock's games just don't thrill me like they once did. Your input helped.

It is a good game for what it is. It is a real time strategy game though, not turn based like Civ. So while you can pause things in single player (and it will pause things for you at times), it plays pretty fast. You aren't micromanaging a bunch of units in combat, but you are
busy making decisions. It is almost 3 different games. There is the single player skirmish mode, where you can pause whenever you want. There is the campaign game mode, which for most of the game plays differently (last round is closer to a skirmish game). Then there is the multiplayer, where you won't be able to pause the game.
