Unboxing new games

At the behest of my regular ASL opponent who is prepping for the Canadian ASL Open next May, I picked up the most recent core module (PTO, Japan, China, Marines).

The box is nice and heavy, sporting some awesome looking box art


and deep


inside I find it packed to the brim with maps, counter sheets, rules and overlays. No false bottom in this puppy


Pretty sure I need a bigger binder to fit these in. Currently using one 4'' and one 3'' binder, for the rules. I use page protectors, which adds to the bulk, but still kinda crazy.

I used to make up little war games on paper to pass the time in high school. The pencils had 6 sides so I would number each and roll them down the desk as dice.

Damn, why didn't I think of that?  I'd make dice out of paper cubes so that you couldn't hear them roll during class.  Of course the motion of rattling dice around in your hand is pretty obvious so I'd have to roll when the teachers back was to the class...but the pencil could of worked at any time!  Well hot damn, now I have an excuse to go back to school!

It's big, heavy and sexy...I have so many counters to clip and my OCD about it is driving me crazy!

I have too.  Otherwise the cool ASL kids will never let me sit at their gaming table.

I mistakingly used a fingernail clipper with my first few core modules and now I wished that I hadn't because I've since purchased the Oregon Laminations corner rounder and it does such a wonderful job of making nicely rounded corners by taking off just enough to round them off.  The nail clipper job isn't *that* bad, but you can definitely tell which ones are which at first glance.
