CNN published a lightweight report today on how the US navy's new Zumwalt-class destroyers were supposedly "designed for the video gamer generation." I thought it might be amusing to identify some of the potential drawbacks of such an approach:

Additional suggestions welcomed!

our ships have been hardened against EMP since we first found out about it.
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

Too bad our national infrastructure isn't.

Have faith in our Leaders for they are prepared! Hidden deep under a mountain in Utah (or is it New Jersey?) the DOD, NSA, and FEMA are stockpiling millions and millions of abacuses, surplus scented candles, and leftover christmas fruitcakes in case of infrastructure collapse.

Actually, I believe that the mountain was artificially constructed out of leftover Christmas fruitcakes. It was the only building material which could produce a structure hardened against any and all types of attack.

I saw one of these parked out front the other day.  What an ugly, ugly ship.  Honestly- it looks like a ship that's trying to be hip and cool and failing miserably.

It's weird how those masts echo the 1920's 'lattice masts' we were talking about a couple of days ago in the Ships! thread.

Tinfoil hats don't count.

The nature of the old metal ships sitting in salt water was that they would disperse EMP. The new anti-radar shit may be more of a challenge. That is not news a country that could make an EMP would not know.

Maybe the key is the range circle. Make a cheap ship that can hit missile with missile at significant range, many war problems go away.

I think the CNN article is a drawback of designing news stories for the "video game generation."

If those ships are truly designed for the video game generation, maybe we'll finally get a serious naval sim with a modern UI instead of what looks like the CIC of a first gen Tico.

If a modern ui for the video game generation means controllers, I might as well just check into the obsolescence clinic now.  :buck2:
