The last episode got the ship acting like a god damn Navy ship and is one of those nice details.

If I watch it and it's dumb, I'm going to be very much put out.

BTW, I finally watched Godzilla and that had the military acting very dumb too.  >:(

You can be such a hairy twat on Mondays.   :knuppel2:
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

That was better. Not sure I'd call it good, but better than it was.

where ya at with it?

Watched the most recent episode. Skipped a couple but I doubt I missed much.

The details still bother me. No way that was even half of the ship's company assembled on the flight deck. A Burke has a crew of at least 300. There were maybe 80-85 people total in that scene. I know that's nit-picky, but the show has messed up so many other things that at this point everything is very noticeable to me.

Adam Baldwin is wasted in this show. Pretty much all he does is grimace. He does that well enough, but I wish they gave him more than a few cheesy lines.

One question, do Burkes really carry enough MOPP gear for the entire crew? I don't know and I couldn't find much online.

What what whaaaat? Uh...do they not have refrigerated/freezer spaces on that billion-dollar 'Last Ship?'

They did but (in one of the actual sensible plot points, sort of) an attempt to run through a coral-choked channel let seawater into part of their engine which led to a runaway spread of plankton (or something like that) which killed most of their generators (and one of the engines for turning a screw? -- a little fuzzy about that). The upshot was that they were running the ship's engines like a car without a radiator belt: an hour at a time max and then they had to stop. But the engine doesn't just turn the shaft, it also runs the AC. And the water desalinators, not incidentally.

Dad and I both thought there couldn't have been quite as much of a problem with water recovery as they were making out -- if they were recovering water from canned pear juice they could do it from pee (right...?), and moreover they were VERY EXPLICITLY in an area with 180 inches of rain a year -- but that was the explanation of the AC; the engine finally blew from routinely overheating so the AC was shot until they could finish repairs. I quipped early on that they would have to deploy the sails, like in one of the early GIJoe five-part 'movies' for the Joe aircraft carrier. This... turned out to be... um... the solution?

I mean, I know what they did, and I understand the principle -- once the sails were deployed the ship not only moved along but the screw turned by reverse impelling, thus giving power and AC back to the ship (even if only diverted to limited areas like the lab and not most of the bridge). I just have a really hard time believing the sails they deployed could pull even a relatively small ship like that destroyer, much less do so without mast and rigging support (which without spoiling things too much were overtly lacking), much less continue to do so without flagging or shifting. (Amusingly, at the time the 'sails' are deployed there's clearly a squall on the way in -- thus the stiff wind in real life for filming -- which would have solved their water problem pronto. In fact the show pretends that a cold front from a low pressure system in the Caribbean, EXPLICITLY CALLED OUT AS THE REASON TO EXPECT A WIND STRONG ENOUGH TO SAIL THE SHIP, would be as dry as a bone.  :tickedoff: )

I mean, damn, even the 1980s GI Joe cartoon was more realistic about what it would take to sail a modern navy ship -- they built ad hoc masts and rigging! It didn't help that establishing shots of the ship afterward clearly showed the screw(s?) pushing the ship slowly along the path of the wind, creating a usual slow-speed wake behind the ship.

If someone on the production swears they actually had chiefs on that destroyer rig sails to pull the ship along under those conditions (briefly) while one of the screws was engaged for impeller purposes, I guess I'd believe their word, maybe. But it sure strains credulity in other regards.

That guy at CinemaSins would have a field day with this show.

EVEN SO! -- and this week's ep was by far the best of the lot (my guess would be it's the episode most borrowed from the book so far, too) -- I appreciate the thousand little verisimilitude touches on the show. If the story wasn't so overtly and constantly daring you to reject its nonsense, which admittedly those of us who know something about the topics would usually spot more readily... but not all of the plot nonsense is something the casual viewer wouldn't be in a position to know about. I don't have to have read a dozen modern naval novels or have a former master chief as a Dad who served on a destroyer, to know that an area with ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY INCHES OF RAIN A YEAR would not drop that rain only on one tiny island.  :buck2:

But again, tonight's episode also stressed there's a fairly pure 'science-fiction' plot in the middle of it.

And a great turn by the Baltar on the ship, trying to Loki his way to freedom.  :D (Much of the plot reminds me of Battlestar Galactica.)

And they explicitly said they were down to the mid-200s. Still, yeah, they've done the full half-muster a few times. At least this time they make sure to show this is all the off-duty crew, with everyone else still at post -- at first I was willing to gripe but then I saw they had in fact accounted (in principle) for the rest.

Now, see, I don't think he's wasted at all. Generally I've thought the veteran actors, especially him, were pulling their weight sufficiently.

You don't think a hammer costs $40K, do you? Wait, that was back in a much earlier movie, adjust for inflation.  :2funny:

Do not get me started. I avoided the temptation to write up post an annoyance sheet on that movie -- it wasn't just the military being dumb, though that, too.

I missed the part about the reduced crew. Still, at the reduced level that wasn't even a half muster. And what's the point of reassuring the crew when you assemble at maybe a third of them and give them a speech with using the comm system so the rest can at least hear you?

yes your being stupid.  no, there would never be a whole ships company on the deck at once unless theyre tied to a pier.  you missed a bunch of middle ground by not watching episodes.
look, I like watching The Walking Dead.  I consider it a documentary on what NOT to do when the shit hits the fan.  tons of plot holes and stupid mistakes.  its still a good show.  stop being a little bitch and watch the series.  its a frikin SHOW.

Piss off turd brain. I know they wouldn't muster the entire crew while underway. And I don't need to watch every episode of a show this asinine to keep up with it or to accurately evaluate it's quality.
