I was big into Dota 2 for a while but only with Bots. I'm intimidated at the prospect of playing with people because of all the lingo you're supposed to understand and because it's one of those games where newbs are generally not welcome. Are you part of a group that would take in a newb?

Unexpectedly I've been playing King Arthur 1 all night (Saxons Campaign). I can't believe how much stuff there is going on that I didn't realize before...like diplomacy. ::) I'm a big fan of this game...I'm thinking it might be time to revisit the main campaign again and see if I can't beat it.

Still fairly highly recommended for a more in-depth Total War clone with some RPG aspects. Not for everyone, for sure, but definitely a hard game and one with a lot more depth than you might think.

As I'm sure you're aware, playing with Humans is another game entirely. I strongly encourage you to give it a try. Believe me, there's no wetter player than I (I'm a weekend warrior only and don't even care if I win or lose, I only care about my own performance) but I get along just fine. The matchmaking system is really good, so if you're a noob you'll be playing with other noobs who will be making all the same silly mistakes as you. :) Really, at the lowest level you just need to worry about not dying...leave any advanced tactics to the higher levels.

I'm part of the Rock Paper Shotgun guild and I'm pretty sure they're welcoming to noobs - you can hang around in the Rock, Paper, Shotgun channel to get an invite. There's also a channel specifically for noobs...I can't remember what it's called so I'll find out for you. Probably Dota2Noobs.

I'd be quite happy to play with you too, although I tend to only play late evenings on weekends, UK time.

But really, don't be put off. I'm rubbish but I don't get a lot of criticism, and when I do I just mute the offender and carry on playing. It doesn't happen often.

King Arthur I is a great game, it's crafted in such a way that it seems like it was created in the late 80s/early 90s. Has that solid storytelling vibe. You can tell the developers were really into it.

In other news, I would like to rename one of my Rome II Carthaginian generals Zod so all in-game factions can kneel before him.

It's a shame what they did with King Arthur II. The series had so much potential to be one of the best in the history of strategy gaming. Instead, hey took it down the wrong direction cause the series to disappear into the gaming dustbin of history.

I think it's a great game. Re-installed the King Arthur Collection on my desktop a couple months ago, intending to play it again, but I've been trying to spend some time with newer stuff first.

My main complaint about the game is the graphics rendering engine, or whatever they did to it. I could change the gfx settings all day long and it would make little difference in the performance. The framerate always seemed a bit on the low side no matter what I did and I heard many others bitch about it too. They must've had something odd going on. I try to keep mine steadily above 40 fps on must stuff but this one seemed capped at 30.

I had picked up KA2 but never even played it after learning that they removed much of the managerial stuff in favor of a canned procession. While I did enjoy the first KA's scripted campaign for it's uniqueness, I enjoyed the open stuff more with all the DLC. Instead of expanding on that, they eliminated it in the sequel. :(

I played 4 hours of Rome 2 today...I can't remember the last time I played for so long. Attempted to sack Rome but my one stack army got surrounded by four Roman armies and pummeled. It was a great, fun battle though. I shall return!

Except there's a big patch due out for it any time now and will almost certainly break saves. I've been wanting to start a WW1 game all day but I don't know which one. Something turn based and not too big/long would be ideal.
