Eldritch Horror + Expansions

Print N Play -  (Your Name Here) and the Argonauts

I've been waffling about getting the Mountains of Madness expansion for Eldritch Horror

Dig the game but the $40 price tag of the expansion seems a bit high for the amount of goods that come with it.  I'll probably pick it up sometime, especially now that the 2nd printing has come.

The price tag is a little bit to swallow as I got it on sale.... I would recommend picking it up if that is the case as I feel it should be priced around $29 possibly.  There is a good amount of content in the box but not at the price of say a game like Polis.

Yeah.. I was thinking that $40 for a damn expansion is about the cost of a whole new game.  And it doesn't look to have as much content as the price tag suggests.  *shrug*

I picked up the first small Eldritch Horror expansion because I thought the core game definitely needed more cards & such.  Which that added at small cost.  But this one.. I'm in no hurry.  Hell, I still have a dozen other games yet to be punched so I can wait for better pricing.

Guys, seriously...I'm trying to be strong here.

I got Origins in less than three weeks and I have to figure there'll be stuff there to buy.

Lord, I am weak...

You didn't know? My Corps has already sailed to Berlin. We got there 3 days ago and we've been in the Tiergarten on the piss ever since. -- Marshal Soult, October 1806

You don't have Eldritch Horror?  No worries!  Fantasy Flight makes it, so the damn thing won't sell out in the first two months and then never be seen agains at suggested retail price for years.  They actually reprint their stuff pretty quickly and without hassle, which they've already done for the core game and this big expansion after they ran out.

It's an enjoyable solitaire game if you enjoy Lovecraft Mythos.  It's been very challenging for me, using two or three characters, to win but I hear other people say some of the GOOs are "easy". *shrug*

Finally got notification that Agents of Smersh is through customs, so I should be getting that in (and it's expansion) by the end of the month anyway.  It plays very similarly to the Arkham Horror/Eldritch Horror games, albeit with more storyline stuff and set in a 70s Cold War spy theme reminiscent of the nuttier James Bond bits.  So that will fill my immediate need to pick up the EH expansion.. for a time.  :)  Been wanting to pick this up for a couple years but the damn thing had been completely sold out and almost nobody was selling their copies.  Had to get in on the KS reprint to be sure.

The first set of expansions for Star Wars: Armada came out so we flung too much money at it and gave it a whirl.  It seems fun but a bigger table is in order.  The 3'x3' standard map size is too cramped once you start adding in the extra capital ships.

We used the "build a fleet" rules option and each player spent 300 points to assemble a fleet and duke it out over 6 turns.  The Imperials (me) took 2 Victory-II class star destroyers with a couple of upgrades, a Gladiator class star destroyer, 2 squadrons of TIE fighters and 2 squadrons of TIE interceptors.

The rebels took an Assault Frigate Mk II with some fancy officers, a Corellian CR90 Corvette with more fancy officers, a Nebulon-B frigate with upgraded guns, 4 squadrons of X-Wings and 2 squadrons of B-Wings.

We used the cards to determine the scenario objective and ended up with it just being a slug fest with me trying to blow up the Assault Frigate and the scum trying to blow up my Gladiator.

I took more pics but they mostly turned out blurry.

At any rate, the map was a bit too small and that really played into the hands of the Imperials as the rebels didn't have enough room to manouvre around the flanks and go for their hit and run attacks.  The X-Wings and TIE fighters got into a big furball right in the middle of the map and the corvette tried to use them as a screen and cut across the front of the 3 star destroyers in order to swing around behind them.  It got too close and was blown into dust on the 3rd turn.

All the TIE fighters were burning wrecks by turn 4 but they managed to take down one squadron of B-Wings and 1 of the X-Wings before they died.  The remaining rebel fighters did a good job of harrying the Star Destroyers and slowing chewed away at their shield but it wasn't enough to seriously damage them.  The Nebulon-B frigate took some criticals but was still alive at the end of the fight which ended rather anti-climatically with the remaining capital ships staying at long range and sniping at one another to little effect until the turn length ran out.  The Imperials won on points.

Thanks for posting. I'm due to play that tonight.

SDR - looks like you have the basic set and one expansion, right? The fat/bloated ship in the pic with the X-wings...I can't recall what that ship is called. Just curious exactly what you bought.

This game and its expansions are definitely on my list.

Silent Disapproval Robot

I have the base game and the following expansions:

Gladiator class destroyer
Imperial fighter squadrons (adds 2 TIE bomber, 2 interceptor, 2 advanced, and 2 more fighter squadrons and new elite pilot cards)
An additional Victory class destroyer

Rebel Assault frigate Mk II
Rebel fighter squadrons (adds 2 Y-wing, 2 A-wing, 2 B-wing, and two more X-wing squadrons and elite pilots).

Additional dice pack.
2 3'x3' play mats with space backgrounds.

Pretty sure that's the Assault Frigate.  But you can just call it "Fatship" for short.  :))

Some stuff from the past week or two..

Painting hasn't progressed much, still some odds & ends left to do on these original three characters but I wanted to check out the solitaire mode.  Plus make G go bonkers.  >:D

The gauntlet run is now set up.  Realized that my VonDrakk Manor set is missing two of the 'critter' skeleton class (only got 4 of the 6, not shown).  Time to send off an email.  :-\

After getting my ass handed to me in Xenoshyft..

DON'T TREAD ON ME!

Fitting for this weekend, however I managed and settled for a Marginal Victory on turn 14 with the Liberty track at 7.  I granted Independence from those rebel conlonists and with trouble in India and the Carribeean pulling away resources......

Keep hearing good things about that solitaire game.   8)

I want to eventually pick up a Revolutionary War battle game (akin to the Great Battles of History series, for example) but haven't really investigated the available field.  The ones I have vaguely eyeballed seemed to only cover one two battle. *shrug*  Something to covet in the distant future - I still have plenty GBoH yet to play.

The operational level ACW one somebody mentioned also sounded enticing.

Think I still have some old black powder era battle wargames around somewhere.  One featuring a couple battles from the War Of Spanish Succession ( has Marlborough & Allies vs The Sun King's forces at Oudenarde and  another) along with the old CoA game Zorndorf.  But I never got them to the table over all those years and the rules may be rather creaky these days (notably Zorndorf).

My point is: I don't have much for the era and need to eventually remedy that.

Solitaire play of base game, with a few KS extras, in the middle of the action.
