What tech takes 1072 turns?
Seismic Induction - 3rd level of Planetary Engineering which itself takes 827 turns.

Of course that is further down the "web" of the tech web and so won't be that long when you get to it (I don't think)...but still.

Civ V was similar - though I don't recall tech taking anything like that long. I was fedup when a tech took 80 turns!

Keep in mind, at the beginning of the game, turns cover 20+ years.  By the end of the game is turn is what, 1 day.  I know it seems long for a turn based game, but it makes some sense.

I've played a few hours already.  Game's quite slow moving or maybe because I'm fiddling around aimlessly.
I find myself fighting against the Planet rather than other human factions.  The miasma is annoying and those Siege Worms are crazy strong.
This is an interesting experience nonetheless.

I even got environmentalist factions criticizing my treatment of native lifeforms. Hope we don't go to war because of this.

By the way the tech research speeds up as your Civ develops.

You can actually speed up research by killing aliens.  Yeah, I'm driving those tree huggers nuts.
The aliens aren't so bad.  The basic guys won't attack you unless you attack them or threaten their home.
The giant squids and siege worms attack anything on it's path.

But wait... the so-called aliens are the natives.  It is the humans who are aliens. Right?

tgb

Aliens are harmless if you don't disturb their nests (at least the early ones are).  You can start pushing back miasma almost immediately.  One of the tech tree branches available from the first turn (Ecology, I think) allows you to build things like sonic fences and satellites that eliminate it.

I'm more concerned about the fact that I had 3 CTD's in my first 2 hours of play :(

BanzaiCat

What's a CTD?

All I gotta say is, when I get this game, if some faction mentions 'carbon footprint' or 'global warming,' they're gonna get nuked into the Stone Age.

:( ...so much for the demo being available on release.  Hopefully it'll show up sometime today.

Heres a website that gives a good overview of the game (all based on previews so some info may change):

3 CTDs in two hours? Not good. Is it running better today?

Sadly, you can't. No "nuke" units in the game.  :-\

I got 10 hours with no CTD.  Finished a standard length campaign and I lost.  Never really thought about the victory conditions and never really had the courage to wage war.

I don't think I ever got to the stage of using nukes in any Civ game...that's how hardcore I am  :(

I used nukes in all my Civ games.

Though in Civ V, I met an AI that didn't hesitate to use them back on me. In Civ I-IV I could advance so far past the other Civs that I'd be in the nuclear age while they're still discovering railroads. That never ended well for them.  >:D

Civ V, though, is much better in balancing that. I've not been able to blow away other Civs in V like I could in the other titles.

Nuking is all fun and games, kids, until someone does it back to you.  :-\
