Patch notes were released. Art of War DLC releases tomorrow along with the patch. A lot of changes!

Looks like they've made big changes to Religion, Supply, Diplo options, and the map itself.

Yeah, Art of War looks to be a serious overhaul to EUIV as it currently exists. The reworking of the world map alone is very impressive.

Like Charlemagne, Day-One purchase, no doubt.

I'm really curious to see this one (especially as I haven't gotten around to learning EU IV yet).

With so many changes to the base game it will probably take six months and a couple of patches to shake all the bugs out, but that won't deter me.

This is starting to look like the reason I decided to move on from EU III in the first place. My big frustration with the series was always that the Thirty Years Wars never seemed convincing (the other thing I hate are wacky colonizations in weird places by countries that weren't really known for sending out colonies). This may not turn out to be an operational Thirty Years War simulator, but it looks like it may be a bit more convincing.

So this one is out now, but $19.99? Seems a bit steep for DLC...anyone try it yet? Is it worth it?

GMG 20% off bumps it down to $16.00.... but I want to hear like you what the initial verdict is and how many release bugs there are.

Agree it would have been nice to see this launch more at the $15 price-point, but Pdox is plugging it as "the grandest EU expansion ever," marketing-ese that apparently translates as, "expect to pay top dollar."

I can't not buy this later tonight. I have no willpower when it comes to Pdox's grand strategy games...

The GMG coupon I used is for 22% off which brought the price down to $15.60. That is reasonable in my opinion so I jumped. Unfortunately, I wouldn't expect any impressions because I have to learn how to play the game first and Lord knows then that might happen.

Dunno about that.

I have at least 98 hours played in EU4, and I've barely scratched the possibilities. Planning on starting a new campaign again soon too.

Between the CK2 Beta and release, I've put well over 100 hours. Probably more but I think the time played reset on the Beta at least once.

Some people are probably intimidated at the thought of starting a new campaign and having to devote so much time to progress through a whole one. I don't care much if I never get to some final end point in them, it's enjoying the journey that counts.

There are very few games I've put 100 hours into during my adult life. Probably just a handful.

My own particular grooves were EUII, March of Eagles, and HOI, and I absolutely had to fight through the analysis paralysis you describe...I never could get past this with Victoria I or II which resembled nothing so much as playing a spreadsheet. I'm sure I have three-digits worth of hours on the three mentioned above.

That said, I have often wondered how many people have various Paradox games mouldering on their Steam accounts, barely having played past the tutorial.

Then again, I wonder much the same thing about the OCS games...

I got this on the Steam sale; all that I wanted of EUIV for about 15 bucks. It was mostly 75% off!

fun so far. I didn't get the common sense DLC so I'm the Knights of Rhodes as a Custom Thing (Aristocratic Republic in need of Theology). It's 1445 and we are still out there man.

the Knights did not do so well against the Ottomans. So I did a custom Shi'ite (ex-Fatamid, no Mameluckes) Egypt with an Aristocratic Republican Governement and the usual fanatical Shi'ite armies. They turned up with a very powerful fleet and so there I was allied with some other Shi'ite regimes near the Persian Gulf and Venice and The Byzantines when...whaddaya know...big wars started on the Persian Gulf and in Asia Minor. I seem to be losing in Mesopotamia and winning against the Ottomans in Asia Minor. Lots of fun. Stayed up late playing a game for the first time since Attila came out.
