Why is this in the computer gaming section?

I know booze is involved here somehow.

That isn't silent disapproval! :P

Don't know - don't care. Thread was started, I jumped in  ^-^

And yep - booze IS involved!  ;D

Already Judge?  It's 17:20!  :o
Huw I'm Scottish - I'm not getting your point?  8)

Actually, I'm heading out in a half hour for my Christmas work party - so just getting a couple of cheap one's in before the great British institution of "ripping off the public" begins...by charging £4 a pint  :o

My company's party is tonight...we're headed out soon. I intend to get Farva levels of blasted, which means I'll be lucky to be half that. If it's 'open bar, duuuude' tonight, so much the better. :)

Later gator bitchez.

MetalDog, with a handle like that I'd have expected something a bit more hardcore!  Paramore are OK at what they do I guess, but it really isn't my thing.  Evanescence just suck. :P

When I think chick rock, I think more like this:

:)

I like Evanescence.

But if you're looking for something different try these two:

And if you're looking for Chick Rock:

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

Nothing like a redone classic.

Imagine if those guys had done Oh Brother Where Art Thou?
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

One last one for ye olde drunken Toonces.

So back in 1991 I watched this contest on ESPN while I was living in New Jersey.  Yes, I grew up there.

Tom Carroll (in the video) is probably my favorite surfer besides Kelly Slater.  I actually owned one of Carroll's boards when I was out here my first tour, but I sold it before I left.  I'd be mad about that except all of my boards were stolen on a subsequent move, so in the end it didn't even matter.

Now then, in this video, Tom is riding a pink board with his trademark swoosh on it.  At or about 1:15 you see him take a wave and, in slow motion, you can see icon Derek Ho do a full-on arm grab to save his board as he bails from taking the wave while Tom takes it and crushes it for a perfect 10.

At the end, about 1:50, you see Tom take his unprecedented 6th wave of the heat and, off camera, he snaps his board.  Not pictured in the video, a very young Kelly Slater waits in the wings with a back up board, which Tom fails to take advantage of as he's essentially won at this point.  Tom goes on to win not only the contest, but notoriety as a balls-up surfer for his "snap" into the vertical face of a 12' Pipe bomb breaking in about 3 feet of coral-infested water, and his broken board becomes a fixture at the Haleiwa Quiksilver store, which I shall proceed to show you at some point.

And of course, his board caddy Kelly Slater just goes on to be the best surfer in the world...

Ok, I'm done for tonight.

I remember this event, legendary performance.  3 years later I graduated high school, moved to the north shore and watched the emergence of Kelly Slater from the line up at pipe, backdoor, and off the wall.  Great era of the sport.

^ Awesome!  I was starting to fear I was the only surfer on Grogheads!

I have decreed that the Friday music video thread shall co-exist in the Computer Gaming forum next to the Friday gaming thread.  At least until Gus accidentally locks or moves it.

And I can neither confirm nor deny any alcohol involvement.  <hungoversmiley>

Longblade - thanks for those.  Nothing More were interesting; definitely a cut above the average.  They aren't exactly Tool but I enjoyed the song enough that I'm going to see what else they have.  My daughter liked it too which is always a bonus. :)

Halestorm...well, they absolutely piss over Evanescence!  I can't decide whether I liked that song or not yet, will give it a few more spins and maybe see what else they have too.  Thanks again, I'm always on the lookout for new bands!

And now for something completely not entirely different.  I give you...Teargas by Katatonia.

Thanks.  I must have messed around with it for 20 minutes before giving up.

We might very well be the worlds only two, surfing and wargaming don't usually go together.  It does make for a very unique life experience being a walking oxymoron.
Me in high school was like Jeff spicoli eating pizza and not only learning about Cuba, but taking over the class from mr hand to lead a discussion on the Cuban missle crisis.

I am contractually obligated to post this here.

Not bad. Never heard of them, but something to look into :)

Halestorm has plenty of other material if you're not into that tune.
