"Most gods throw dice, but Fate plays chess, and you don't find out until too late that he's been playing with two queens all along".  Terry Pratchett.

During filming of Airplane, Leslie Nielsen used a whoopee cushion to keep the cast off-balance. Hays said that Nielsen "played that thing like a maestro"

Tallulah Bankhead: "I'll come and make love to you at five o'clock. If I'm late, start without me."

"When all other trusts fail, turn to Flashman." — Abraham Lincoln.

"I have enjoyed very warm relations with my two husbands."
"With your eyes closed?"
"That helped."  Lauren Bacall

Master Chiefs are sneaky, dastardly, and snarky miscreants who thrive on the tears of Ensigns and belly dancers.   Admiral Gerry Bogan.

Seems like father like son. Farage doesn't have an honourable bone in his body so unfortunately unlikely to actually happen.
"you are the rule maker, the dictator, the mini- Stalin, Mao, Hitler, the emperor, generalissimo, the MAN. You may talk the talk and appear to be quite easy going to foster popularity, but to the MAN I say F*CK YOU." And Steve G is F******g rude ? Just another day on the BF forum ... one demented idiots reaction to BF disagreeing about the thickness of the armour on a Tiger II turret mantlet.

Seriously ?

This guy is just another internet warrior.
Do you seriously think it would ever happen even if farang said yes ?
so in essense its a risk free publicity stunt

Farage should accept. O0 I'm surprise he didn't. Just think of the publicity just before an election. Plus it would be highly entertaining to see a politician scrap it out with a sword. Perhaps we can also get Cameron and Miliband to do it too instead of a televised debate, which would be far more entertaining.  >:D O0 :2funny:
The most shocking fact about war is that its victims and its instruments are individual human beings, and that these individual beings are condemned by the monstrous conventions of politics to murder or be murdered in quarrels not their own. Aldous Huxley

Dueling had a lot of things wrong with it, but having to put your health, if not your life, at risk because of an outrageous comment might trim some of the vitriol being spewed by politicians these days.
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

There's a section in the book Six Frigates by Ian Toll I think about how out of control dueling was in the early US navy. I remember a story where too officers who were best friends were basically forced by social pressure to fight a duel because they had been joking around with each other and said things to each other that other officers thought were insulting. Basically the culture was that if you didn't fight under such circumstances then you were a coward. It certainly would make you think a little more about what you say.

Nobody wants to see anything crazy like that.

But I am reminded of a recent news item where during an election one politician created a total fabrication. After the election he admitted he knew it was a lie and further was absolutely unrepentant. Seems to me if there were some skin in the game maybe folks might think twice about such dishonesty. Lord knows some of them have no shame these days.

In a sense such a culture encourages political correctness, unless you're a capable duellist. Labelling someone a coward simply because they don't want to fight a duel is simplistic, and a convenient label to social coercion.

I still think people would prefer to watch a televised duel between politicians rather than a televised debate. ;)

Then she can do what Honor Harrington did when faced with the same situation: Demand the Ellington Protocol and choose the Model 1911.

LB, there was a commercial that ran on national television asking just that.
When two countries had an arguemnt, then two old diplomats took off their coats and started to duke it out.  Can't remember much more, but you are ahead of your time.

Why send a poor diplomat. Send the prime minister or foreign minister.
