Watched it today with the wife after doing a triple feature of the originals over the last two days. 

Great movie.  Honestly, the only weak point for me was Tom Hardy as Max.  He's a good actor, but he didn't quite capture the charisma of younger Gibson's portrayal.  He sort of growled through the role and played it a lot more feral. 

Still, like the originals this is a George Miller vision, and it doesn't miss a beat from his original three films.  The action is pretty well 80% of the movie, but it doesn't overwhelm or desensitize you the way modern big screen blockbusters do.  I'm also in awe to find that Miller insisted on using practical effects, not CGI.  So the ridiculous things you see in the film are real, actual working props.  Yes, even the working flamethrowing guitar on the giant amplifier vehicle. 

A few neat callbacks too, like the return of Max's Ford Falcon V8 Pursuit Special and the actor that played Toecutter coming back to play the main villain, Immorten Joe.

Can't recommend it enough.  Wife loved it too.

Seen all three of the originals, funny man.  As a matter of fact, there is a scene towards the end of 1, where one of the bad guys gets run over by a semi.  My best friend and my brother and me, rewound and played that over and over on the VCR.  Just the way that the front left wheel goes up and over is very satisfying in the film.

I saw chunks of the originals when I was a kid (my parents were watching them at home on VHS), but I'm afraid I wasn't enthralled.  I've never cared for apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic films as a rule; movies like ID4 and (oddly enough) The Postman are the exceptions for me.

The Postman?!? Read the damn book! Kids these days.  >:(

I *did* read the book, actually.  I enjoyed that too; I liked the Cincinnatus-type character.  :)

I saw The Postman quite by accident.  My then-roommate and I were both recovering from a hangover one weekend, and came across the movie while aimlessly flipping through channels.  Something about it apparently captured our attention, because we ended up watching the whole thing.

I like Thunderdome.  I always looked at like a band that has that one commercial success album, even if it's not true to who they are.  It's the success of that album that allows them to continue to do the music they love.  Or the pro athlete getting a good contract, not for what he will do for the next few years, but for what he did with a mediocre contract.  Thunderdome was the mainstream movie that brought in the audience that the first two didn't.
