Since the add ons are basically new factions and/or leaders I'm guessing you won't see then in an on going game. But it also shouldn't wreck yer saves either....
I say shouldn't but haven't tried it yet.  :P

Does anyone know if you install the add ons you need to restart your game? I was thinking of buying them since they are so cheap this weekend but I am about 150 turns into a game.

I'd be extremely surprised since the only thing it adds is givine you an extra Mage selection option when starting a new game.  You should be just fine.

Besides... doesn't Steam automatically download DLC into your games, whether you own the DLC or not?

Yes it does.

Does the DLC add that much  more to the game play?

Extra Mage to play as/against.  And a purchasable background option for a Koatl village hex next to your start city.

Not much, no.  But Koatls are quite nice IMO.  Being able to guarantee you'll start off able to build an army of them is a powerful start, even if they cost about double what the normal basic units do in upkeep.

I blame all of you (and the Steam $10 sale) for my buying it.  It sounds too much like a modernized Master of Magic.

I bought it and the 2 x DLC packs in the sale (both Gamersgate and Steam)

So that's it I guess.

Does anyone have any tips for staying hydrated and fed and not completely losing my cardiovascular and strength conditioning whilst zombiefied in front of my PC playing this for omg-hours?

I think an IV saline drip should do the trick  :)

Everytime the AI demands gold or war drop and do 20 push ups and sit ups.  You'll be broken off within an hour.

Dextrose drip would be better... As well as a catheter for when it's time to return all that rented fluid.  ;)

I was going to make a comment on a catheter and then decided it was just too gross.
