Silent Disapproval Robot

Popped up at midnight at one of my not quite local game stores.  I was 4 pints in by that point so I ended up ordering it.  Drove down to pick it up this morning.

Silent Disapproval Robot

Finally got around to punching the counters.  They're really badly misaligned on one of the sheets.  Hopefully I can get a replacement sheet.

I'd contact GMT.  That's horrible.

Silent Disapproval Robot

I did.  I had some troubles with my order for Empire of the Sun and ended up getting put in touch with one of the bigwigs.  I emailed him today and he responded very quickly.  Hopefully this will get sorted on Monday and they'll ship off a replacement sheet for me.

Man.. that blows.  I scrambled to check both sides of the counter sheets in my recent GMT acquisitions, after seeing this.  :o  Fortunately they're okay, although the back side on one or two Genesis sheets have a little extra open space on the top of the unit counters and the numbers at the bottom are close enough to require careful corner clipping.

I thought GMT had fired the printer who misaligned their counter sheets in Alexander Deluxe, as they mentioned in the notification about redoing them?  I'm still waiting on those to show up.

GMT as great of a company as they are and as great as the games they publish are really needs to look at quality of product.  They regularly have quality control issues with the counter sheets.  Honestly I'd like them start using some higher quality materials too.

I agree.  But they sent out a missive about how they're going to ditch the printer making a hash of those and commit more resources to QC, after the Alexander Deluxe episode.  I hate to say it, but SDR's discovery makes me wonder if either has been done.  :-\  They should at least start having their inspectors checking both sides of the counter sheets to make sure they're printed properly, before they are shipped.  There has also been the occasional issue of misprints on maps over the past decade.

I also agree with wanting better material quality.  While the mounted mapboards are great, for the ones that actually have them, I'm not too enamored with how archaic the counter art can be and how thin they are.  Between being so light and the slickness of the counter surfaces, stacks tend to get knocked over if I breath too hard.

Yes, it's doubly frustrating to discover badly misaligned counters after you've pulled out a little sheet signed by Mike informing you that quality is important to GMT and that he's personally inspected everything to ensure its all up to spec.  Somebody needs to punch Mike in the dick and give him a pink slip.

Your frustration can be reasonable and valid without needing to go over-the-top about it.

A few years ago, when I purchased a copy of Command and Colors: Napoleonics, the mounted map board broke into 4 different pieces after the first play through. I could have poured negative emotional energy and thoughts into the fact that a wargame mounted map board from a well known wargame publishing company cracked into pieces after the first scenario. Instead, I contacted GMT games, explained my complaint, and they delivered a free, new (and better!) mapboard within a week.

I had a section of board split like that with FFG's Fortress America reissue.

I never was into that one as much as the others in that MB series, and figured I'd sell it dirt cheap or trade it off at some point so I didn't mess with replacing it.  The components are pretty nice but it was a bit disappointing that the paper would just do that on the first unfolding, before even playing.  Even though it's still fully functional and not really noticeable when set up.

I had completely dismissed this game due to the way it's laid out- the side view turns me off in some amazing way.  But you guys are really making me re-think my stance on this.

Side boobs will do that to you.

Picking up my copy today. Finally!

I'm working on a review for the MFP. I hope to give you enough info to make me up yer mind. Side view was a little odd and game looked simplistic... it ain't.

The side view actually appealed to me from the start. I hadn't seen that in any flight game before.
