Chiming in here.

Got to a mission (truck takes you to a T junction at a village that you have to defend), T-24s turn up - initially no-one opens up (or miss terribly) and the T-34s win the day.

Eventually, after a couple of reloads, it seemed to work and the T-34s were destroyed. I go to the windmill, sort some stuff out and then head back...go to my position and wait for the impending assault. Whilst waiting, I hear tanks. Several T-34s (5 or 6) come crashing through the trees to my rear. I have nothing to attack them with, so I sit and wait. They all gather round the T junction of the village, 20 meters away from me....and sit. I'm in full view...and nothing. No-one is attackign anyone. Eventually - it seemed like a company of soviets show up...and...run past me.

Me and my comrades sit and watch the russians walking right past us - right through our position...and more pass by...and more. Eventually I start shooting them...and it's a turkey shoot. Not one of them saw me - even though I was in full view, standing up and shooting from the hip!

If I had a refillable Panzerschreck, I could have won the day on my own.

It's not ready (what a shock). This is only the first real mission in.

If your playing the mission I think you are, right after the windmill, I believe you actually are supposed to take control of the pak gun that is in the middle of the field.  Then you can attack the tanks that way.  I was a horrible shot with the gun, but luckily my comrades were able to take out the tanks for me:)

But I do agree, not sure this game was ready, but hopefully at some point it will reach its full potential...

Well it is that mission - but my "waypoint" to defend was by a set of sandbags behind the t junction.

I'll try again. I'm playing the German campiagn in the native language - so I may not have read all the subtitled instructions.

But - even if that is the case - myself and my german comrades were all sitting around where I was told, spread out. I was behind the sandbags and my platoon leader was to my right, kneeling in the open on the road. The Russians passed by, both tanks and 30 or more infantry and NONE of them attacked...not the Germans and not the Soviets. I stood there pumping lead into them and nothing opened fire on me! :P

Happy days. :-)

At first the waypoint was a little screwy for me too, I just moved a little to the left towards the fields and my waypoint changed to the field gun and then I could attack the tanks.  Up until that point, my team was also useless.

JudgeDredd

aahhh....gotcha. So once you move there, you get an updated order? I may have not read that.

I had exactly the same issue JD and it took me 5 times to get the mission to script properly.  Go kneel behind the sandbags on the right of the road and hope that the PaK guns open up on the tanks.  If they do, you should be good to go (as long as you don't get killed).  One of the guns will get hit and you'll have to take over as gunner.  Keep plinking away and you should be able to finish the mission.

BTW, anyone else getting really stuttery, jittery animations on enemy tanks?

Not that I am overly complaining, but I buy this game at Gamersgate a few days ago as a pre-order for $29.  However, on release day already discounted by 10%.  I understand not getting any freebies as part of pre-order, but actually turned out to be a penalty at paying a higher price.  10% is nothing so not going to go crazy here, just surprised.  less of a reason to pre-order again.

I emailled them and asked if those of us who pre-ordered could get the 10% off as well, perhaps as blue coins or something.  Maybe they'll say yes, who knows?

I did the same..not expecting much, more of a principle thing:)

I am happy to report that Gamersgate did end up responding and providing me the rough difference in cost with blue coins (3000).  I did not expect that to actually happen, really good experience with them!  Having that happen and the easy to download games, always makes gamersgate my number one spot for buying games if available.

Now only if I was smart enough to buy the game in the first place, that would have been better:)  Maybe it will grow on me....

Well, do we like it or not?

It's a great game and all the better for being an expansion of Arma II.

I'm 50/50 on it right now.  When it's working, I'm having a blast.  I really enjoyed taking out the Russians at the windmill.   I just hope they can fix the scripting errors and CTD problems.

My experience in games like this is usually pretty different.  I use the editor and am usually Russian and never play missions or campaigns.

Anyway, in my more leasurely slavic world the game is incredible.  I strolled around various towns, shooting the occasional German and things seemed perfectly swell.

Silent Disapproval Robot

I generally play as the Allies in WWII as well.  I just started with the Germans because that was the first on the list of campaigns.

I've found that quite often east front WWII games are not as heavily tested for the Russian side since game-makers assume the average player is going to play German most of the time.  This can be good or bad, but I've learned not to depend too much on what the scripted
scenarios provide and in the Arma series I quit playing the campaigns and scenarios about 10 years ago BUT the editor is actually pretty good  PLUS (and this may not work outside of the PREVIEW realm of the editor even) when you get killed you can switch sides if you want to  and go look at the battle from the other side.  Why, just yesterday, the Germans were faultering against a Russians defense based on one well-sited AT gun had so I took a suicide tour in a scout car as the Russian CO, took over the Germans, led them into town, knocked out the AT gun and got killed, which left me as confused Russian sapper who eventually found the last functioning armored vehicle in the game was a STGIII so the Germans were declared victorious thanks to my initiative and sense of fair play.

Patch 1.02 is out.

Sounds are better but I'm getting more CTDs than I did before.  Still got a long way to go before this game will be ready for prime time.

I so badly want this game but am holding off until someone tells me it's working acceptably.

I'm not having any trouble, but I have the graphics turned down (no AA or post-processing and low shadows) and I only play in preview mode in the editor.

Jarhead0331

I'm not having much of the trouble discussed here either.  Graphics on full run smooth and I've had none of the scripting errors thankfully.  The only problem I've had so far is on mission 3 or 4.  My German unit was ambushed at an intersection of a Town.  I kicked some royal soviet a$$ and went all Rambo on them.  Then, CTD.

I was so let down by the crash after such an exciting battle where I performed so well, that I haven't gone back to the game since.  I'm thinking I'll give it another go tonight.

That's where I'm at as well.  I lit up the Soviet truck and jeeps on the road, then moved into the town and bam! CTD.  Had 3 in a row since the patch, all sometime during or immediately after the big firefight outside the depot.

The other annoying thing is that the patch is incompatible with all your in-mission saved games, so you'll have to start over again from the beginning of the mission.
