Still having the same CTD at right around the same time in the same mission.  Awesome game so far, but the CTD is starting to upset me.

Mine's more stable now with patch 1.02 but I still get occasional crashes.  I tweaked the settings quite a bit and I am getting pretty decent frame rates most of the time but during big battles in towns, it turns into a slideshow.  Guess it's time to get a new PC.

That Night Call mission in the German campaign is very frustrating.  I really hope the devs re-examine it in the hopes of improving it.  The way it stands now, the player is expected to go full Rambo and that doesn't really fit well with the realistic Eastern Front simulation that the game is supposedly trying to represent.  It took me over a week to finish the mission with a hell of a lot of quick saving.  I ended up having to micro manage the whole thing and by the end of it, I was personally responsible for 134 dead Soviets, 6 T-34s, 4 jeeps, 2 armoured car thingies, 5 artillery pieces, and several trucks.  I don't know how many more were killed by my AI squadmates.

At any rate, I joined the SimHQ server and played some online co-op and it was a lot of fun.  The game ran really well for me in the co-op mode and the play style used by the SimHQ group (good comms, real world tactics, lots of planning) just felt right.  Amazing how just one AI sniper can ruin your whole day.

There are some good videos of online play up at the SimHQ Iron Front forum now.  I found this one particularly engaging.

I decided to fire it up this morning with the new patch and that was a mistake....when I went to load my previous save, it said it was not compatible.  After all the difficulties I had getting to that point in the game, I was really frustrated when I saw that.  It immediately went back to the shelf.  I'll wait for some more time when the product is more "final" and won't receive a future patch rendering my save game useless:(

It's not that bad, just revert to the beginning of the mission and continue on.

Stupid game just cost be $3300 for a new PC.  Damned thing better run smooth a silk.

Wow....must be some computer to cost that nowadays:)

I hope so.  I was originally going to go with two 7970 video cards in Crossfire mode but they seem to cause problems for many games so I went with this instead.

I haven't touched this since my initial foray into it when I watched a plethora of Russian Soldiers and T-34s go right past me and not bother one bit that I was there. Even once I started shooting and killing them all, they just went to ground - didn't fire back or anything and I was a few feet away.

That experience right there totally killed it for me and the desktop shortcut went the way of the recycle bin.

I was playing Ghost Recon Advanced Warrior 2 last night as a run up to the new one coming out.

I haven't touched a strategy game in some time. My time has been taken up by OOTP13, Saints Row The Third and iRacing. I haven't got into simming the way I wanted - even by cutting out strategy gaming, I still seem to have very little time to play :-(

Have you patched Iron Front to v1.02?  The AI behaviour and mission triggers seem a lot better now.  The AI is still as wonky as it ever was in ArmA II but at least it responds to you now.

JudgeDredd

Well, it'll likely be patched - automatically through Steam - but the behaviour kind of took the wind out of my sails so haven't really thought about firing it back up to be fair.

I did go back to try it out after it's latest patch - unfortunately I couldn't load my game. I went through so much to get there, I just didn't have the heart to start again. So I think I'll leave it a few months in the hope that no other patches will mess with saved games.

I wish I would learn. I thought I had for a while and then I bolted and bought this on release and I've pre-ordered the new Ghost Recon game. Clearly I'm on a slippery slide.

I need to go back to what I was doing successfully for a while - NOT buying on release. Eventually, either the game drops in price or at the very least I get a playable game.

JD,

You summed up my thoughts exactly.  At least for me, just too unstable and I also had to revert my save back which didn't help my impressions.  Therefore, mine is on the shelf until a much later time when I think things may be in a better position.  Hopefully one day it will be just fine with a few patches and such.
