Not sure what to make of this.  If MIT has deigned to notice wargames, does our hobby meet the criteria of being "respectable" and having value to the Intelligentsia?
"Most gods throw dice, but Fate plays chess, and you don't find out until too late that he's been playing with two queens all along".  Terry Pratchett.

During filming of Airplane, Leslie Nielsen used a whoopee cushion to keep the cast off-balance. Hays said that Nielsen "played that thing like a maestro"

Tallulah Bankhead: "I'll come and make love to you at five o'clock. If I'm late, start without me."

"When all other trusts fail, turn to Flashman." — Abraham Lincoln.

"I have enjoyed very warm relations with my two husbands."
"With your eyes closed?"
"That helped."  Lauren Bacall

Master Chiefs are sneaky, dastardly, and snarky miscreants who thrive on the tears of Ensigns and belly dancers.   Admiral Gerry Bogan.

I know most of those authors, and have worked with a few of them. They are wargamers through and through.

They're the kind of gamers that will sit down and play with you for 18 hours at a convention without batting an eye
The key to surviving this site is to not say something which ends up as someone's tag line - Steelgrave

"their citizens (all of them counted as such) glorified their mythology of 'rights'...and lost track of their duties. No nation, so constituted, can endure." Robert Heinlein, Starship Troopers

No, this is more like Jane Goodall noticing the chimps.  :P

The editor (Matthew Kirschenbaum) is a longtime DC-area wargamer, but he's also on faculty at U of Maryland, so he understands the path to getting the book published like this.

Of the contributors, Jeremy Antley, Larry Bond, Lee Brimmicombe-Wood, Rex Brynen, Luke Caldwell, Stephen V. Cole, Greg Costikyan, James F. Dunnigan,  A. Scott Glancy, Troy Goodfellow, Mark Herman, Mark Mahaffey, Brien J. Miller, Joseph Miranda,  Peter P. Perla, Jon Peterson, John Prados, Ted S. Raicer, Volko Ruhnke, Philip Sabin, Marcus Schulzke, John Tiller, J. R. Tracy, Brian Train, and Charles Vasey are all published designers that I know off the top of my head.  Many of the rest are professionals working for the DoD or similar agencies.

But the majority of these guys are actual wargamers that have a long time love of slinging dice over hexes, counters, and occasional bits & bytes.

Michael Peck (Diced T) is in that list too.

yep, he's a Friend of Grog, but I don't think he's a published designer.
