The key to surviving this site is to not say something which ends up as someone's tag line - Steelgrave

We rode the Shinkansen to Kyoto and visited Yasaka Shrine (Shinto) and the Gion Geisha district.  We saw a Maiko (apprentice) but wasn't able to take some pictures.

I'm always impressed with how clean streets are in Japanese cities.  It literally looks so clean you could eat off of them.  Very nice pictures Jomni!   O0

What's interesting is that these ancient temples and shrines are still being used today for religious activities and is still relevant in their daily lives.

Thanks for posting.

So easy is it to travel about?  Are the hotels comfortable?
Any time is a good time for pie.

Sir Slash

Very nice presentation. Looks like a great place to see. I'll put it on my Bucket List.

As an Asian, it is fine for me.  You need to know the rail system so a bit of pre-planning is needed.  Knowing a little Japanese helps too.
I got crushed by the infamous Tokyo rush hour crowd like the one below.

As for hotels, they mostly offer two separate beds instead of the usual single king sized bed.

aaaaah - that explains it

for the last 15 years i have got in lifts in London hotels that are packed in like sardines - but no, at every stop on every floor theres always a Japanese family happy to try and squeeze in, despite the occassional

'theres clearly no fkng room, step back!!!' shouts from the back of the lift, nothing will deter them

i see now they experience this everyday!!

I used to live in Japan (only for a year, SDR is our resident expert).

A "full" elevator in the west is only about a quarter full by Japanese standards.

The most compressed I've ever been was outside of a train station after a small fire. When the "all clear" was given the press of bodies was both orderly and beyond anything you can imagine. Without being crushed there managed to probably be 15 people touching some part of my body - maybe more. I've never experienced anything like it.
