Now the Weather Channel is telling me we're only getting 4 inches. It is like being with Star after all.

That's what sells.  Panic and chaos.

And sex. Weather Channel says this will be the sexiest winter storm since the Blizzard of 78.

I predict this sexy historic storm will produce a lot of October babies.

Panzer, I used to live in SD also.  I live in a rural area of NW Ohio now.  They know how to deal with the snow, but they don't have the budgets to lay salt everywhere.

My issue isn't with the areas having to deal with the snow, it's the national news outlets acting like they've never gotten snow before.

One of us is apparently stalking the other. I'm originally from western Ohio. When I lived in SD (Chamberlain) I roomed with a guy from Fostoria.

As for the news outlets, my strategy is simple: I stopped paying attention to all of them a few years ago!  >:D

Here here!  That's how I do it, too.

Working for a TV news channel was once what I 'wanted to do when I grew up.' When I was a teen I'd religiously absorb the news...of course back then (back in MY day), they only had the news on three times a day. My closest brush was when I was 18 and I applied to work at a local news channel, and they actually called me in for an interview. Didn't get the job...they told me I'd have to be in at 4 am and I expressed concern since I was going to school (to learn R-T-F)...that's probably what shot me in the foot. I imagine he had about 100 similar kids to go through and any minor sign would be enough to put me into the 'thanks but no thanks' pile. Oh well.

I'm sure there's idiocy out there that thinks the news is legitimate and honest, but still, it's fascinating to me that so many people I talk to express disdain and even outright hatred for the news. It seems the majority of people despise it, and yet, the news and their puppeteers advertisers keep on truckin', totally oblivious to how most of the public views them. That can't be the case, but it's how I see it.

It's simple- profit-based News is the New Entertainment. If the producers hokey it up and lots of people watch it then there's nothing broken in the business model.

Sad, but there it is.

I'm at about 20 miles SW of Fostoria.  I lived at Ellsworth AFB, SD for 3 years.

More weather sluts! Oh and the forecast for my area has changed from a 1 day storm to a 2 day storm and revised up from 4 inches to a foot. Repaired our fireplace just in time!

So far, the prediction is for the storm to stay far enough south that we'll only see snow showers. I'm not buying it though.

In north middle West TN picked up about half an inch of bumpy clear ice. (Or maybe a quarter inch with bumps, makes it seem thicker.)

Theoretically, tomorrow will be rain most of the day, shifting to a snow dump on Friday, but if the various pressure systems move a little higher or lower that could change to all rain (although no one expects Friday to be anything but snow so far) or to frozen slush all Thursday and then snow.

The Weather Sluts were busy here showing pictures of "Downed Tree-Limbs" and "Pools of Water in the Roads" after our last storm came through.  :o  But when my Weather Alert went off at 4am Sunday morning because of a Tornado Warning, I got up and watched the real Weather Professionals cover the storms properly and without needless drama.
