I finally got in a couple of games of Runebound 3rd Ed. Solo and so far I have had a very good experience.  I have not played any of the other iterations, but so far not bad.  Solo games works well even with the token combat, I had not problems making combat decisions for both sides.

There has been talk about limited content, however for the solo player this is not as big as an issue as I can see it is with multiplayers.  The flavor text is very good and gives you a sense of the adventure, however there are only two scenarios in the game so I can see where they are going to ramp up the expansion machine quickly and note some so in the rulebook.

Overall I was incinerated by the High Lord Margath the Red Dragon as he made his way to Tamalir.....

To my end.....

I was an inch away from buying it the day it came out.  But looking at the content numbers, it seemed the amount of card content would be rather limiting for just the core game.

Being an FFG title, I probably don't have to worry about it going out of print after two weeks.  Especially since they're obviously going their recently preferred route of releasing a lower-cost, but somewhat thin on content, core game followed by a steady stream of expansions to fill it out.  So I don't worry much about being able to pick it up, along with an expansion or two, a year later when it has some more variety available.

I had also considered the Warhammer Quest card game, but that one looks quite limited.  Think I'll just wait for Star Wars Rebellion as my next FFG purchase.

It's on my wishlist...along with the Warhammer Quest card game...and a billion other things... :crazy2:

I certainly want Runebound.

Was just trying to point out that I'm so swamped with unplayed games that I've been putting a halt on purchasing most of the new stuff I want.

Will have to play vicariously through PzE.  :D

Predictably, I buckled and grabbed this.

Been wanting a new adventure-style game but the only stuff on sale lately has been a few wargames and competitive card games (of which I did partake).

Since Posthuman and Doomrock aren't going to be hitting the doorstep for weeks yet, this was really the only other one of it's kind high on my wishlist.

My poor wallet.  Luckily my seasonal gift shopping is done, so it's all about me again.   ^-^

Nef I don't think you will be sorry.  I easily got two games in the last go around.  It is a fun experience for me as the terrain dice and items are enough for now. The board is very nice and everything flows... even the combat which I was very hesitant about turned out in my view to worked better than expected.

My only concern is how quickly I'll end up seeing the same event cards & such again on subsequent plays.

That's allayed by

1) You mentioning it would have longer legs as a solo game, although I may end up trying a 2 or 3 player game over the holidays, if that looks feasible.

and

2) With all the new games I've picked up this shopping season, I shouldn't have to worry about it getting played so much that the draws get repetitive.  I tend to rotate them through, one at a time, so they'll probably have an expansion out before too many plays.  I think that's what cinched the purchase now rather than later - having plenty other new games to mix in (oddly enough).

I also dig the few minis that come with it.  I'll be painting some again soon, after a long hiatus, and pretty much all of FFG's Terrinoth games come with well detailed minis.  If they're close to the quality of the Descent minis, then they're gonna get pimped at some point.  Which reminds me.. I still have hordes of Descent and Imperial Assault minis to paint too.  Been slackin.  :knuppel2:

Welllll shitbags!

Was looking forward to playing it this week but it showed up with the outside shrink & the stickers for the dice missing.

I'm thinking some D-bag(s) screwed up their sticker job on their dice and opened another set on the shelves to pillage those.  Then left it for the last unlucky mofo.  That or someone was just curious, dug through the contents, and lost the sticker sheet when putting it all back.  ::)  Either way, it looks like I got a return that was put back on the shelf, but was still missing something.

Maybe I should just put in a replacement request for the whole damn thing instead of returning it.  I already emailed FFG but I'm beginning to think sending it back, to make a point, is the better option and will likely be faster too.  I just hope the dipshits at Amazon don't send it off to some other poor bastard.

Some kind of Runebound curse on me.

Returned previous box, ordered new one (costing $3 more than last but whatevah).

New one looks to have everything.  But one of the dice has a chunk missing out of the edge.  Fortunately it was zip-locked so the broken piece of die was still in it.  Or the vast majority of it anyway.  Just gonna superglue it back on and be done with this component nuttery.  :knuppel2:
