Fellow Flightsimmers, rejoice!

Not sure of the details of the outage yet, but this is good news.

Any insight on the Thirdwire meltdown on SimHQ?  Something juicy happened, but I can't seem to figure it out.

^I was wondering the same-exact-thing.  If you find out, please let us know.

I don't visit SimHQ anymore. Given some of the discussions I've seen over there in the past some sort of meltdown is not a surprise.

As a celebration of the return of CA I immediately downloaded the A-6 Intruder SuperPak. Sorry, guys, gotta go move a little mud!

Well, I definitely am not a very frequent visitor at SimHQ- maybe twice a week if I remember.  I saw CA was down here.  I went to SimHQ and worked my way down the forums until I finally ended up in the Thirdwire forum...I like to hit the screenshots there and in the YAP forum every week or so.  Anyway, I saw the thread regarding the shutdown of CA there, and the discussion of possible hackers.

I checked in again a day later or so.  There was some discussion going on regarding a new home for the CA guys, and how they had been at SimHQ previously but it didn't work out.  I got a sense that some of the SimHQ staff are TW haters for some reason, although I didn't quite understand it.  Maybe I'm projecting, and I can't understand how a Sim staffer could hate one of the more popular flight sims.  Anyway, one of the staffers posted later that the TW guys left SimHQ and went to CA and made their home there, and that made both sides happy.

Next time I logged it, the TW forum was gone.

So, I'm guessing that the discussion melted down from that point, maybe some old wounds were reopened and somebody at SimHQ got butt hurt.  It's pretty childish, IMO, and not knowing the whole story.  I have to admit to being baffled by the whole thing.

I thought it all came down to a spat over YAP with the SimHQ guys supporting it and the TW guys saying the YAP developers didn't get permission to release a for-profiit 3rd party add-on.

That could have been it.  Maybe the conversation escalated to that and somebody had a tantrum at SimHQ.

I guess I'll download some ships ... but this weekend looks like an Iron Front weekend mostly.

Interestingly, I recently got this email from John Shelton, one of the lead guys on the YAP team:

Yankee Air Pirate and Rising Sun are played by people like you on every continent, in most of the countries, in history classes at universities, fighter squadrons, forward combat areas, at sea, and many of the military bases on Earth. We are very proud of that.

We thought you might be interested in watching the development as it happens. We use Facebook to show developments back and forth and to you if you wish.

Right now, we are working on Rising Sun Phase 3 and 4 so we are asking you to come visit.  When we switch back to YAP, it will be used in that.

We would like to get your input. We have requests for new models, games, battles, etc. Your ideas can become items on "the list".

Having trouble flying? Fighting? Landing? Trapping? Refueling? Something not appearing in the game? We can help with those and many other things.

We wanted a more direct way to discuss missions. We will not bore you with details. We want you to know what the flight was about. The point of YAP and Rising Sun is for you to BE the pilot...who was a real person. You should know what he was doing and thinking that day...not just what a general had ordered. We want to know what you want.

Here's where we are. LIKE us and check in from time to time.

We will still be on SimHQ who generously provides us with forum space but we wish to communicate with our target market...aviation history fans...men who read books. We hope we can have a place where a customer can ask a simple question and get from us a straight answer. We are trying to provide entertainment and enjoy the process ourselves. Here, we can deal with our people and keep it positive and entertaining.

Since we are not "pure" gamers, we do not wished to be trapped in conversations about this or that game engine. We think we can put you into the moment with much less than Thirdwire provides us to work with and so far, we have been right.
