Im sure by now that everybody on here knows that I whore out my channel like you wouldn't believe. BUT I GOTTA DO IT SOMEWHERE TOP KEK!!

Anyway I was thinking about a two small series that I wanted to do for my channel. The first will be a four or five part group of videos that will essentially be talking about accessibility of wargames. Specifically I want to do a video for each level of gameplay, strategic, operational and tactical, with each video focusing on the best of the games in these groups. Well...not so much the best, but what is essentially the most accessible, I'll take into account documentation, in game tutorials, and UI ease of use with separate scorings for complexity and ease for getting into it.

The second is essentially going to be explanation of battles. There is one channel I saw, Epic History TV, i watched their episode of waterloo, and it was pretty good, 10 minutes and very digestible. I wanted to do something similar to that...however I wanted to give it a much more personal touch, and by personal I mean unleashing by inner bogan on Napoleon. I want it to be engaging and funny at certain spots. If I was to do waterloo, it would be two or three videos, each about 5-10 minutes in length.

If anybody has any idea for any other series I could do in relation to wargames, topics, ANYTHING. Please let me know. I got a new mic today, snowball, and I wanna BREAK THIS THING IN

They sound like two very good ideas to fit the content of a historical wargaming channel.

I took a consensus about getting into wargaming and posted up here

about gateway games into the hobby

Looking forward to seeing your ideas come to fruition.

IMHO what a lot of lets plays do wrong is just plonk the viewer into the game and battle, without much context, without any build up or history. Some do it, most don't. Most are just "I did this, I did that" kind of passive watch throughs.

The Historical Gamer does a good job of bringing the history along with his videos.

In the realm of wargaming on the tabletop, Bruce with Troy did this

http://www.wargamespace.com/2016/04/06/my-kingdom-for-a-phalanx/

That has a sort of historical intro, and then a heavily edited playthrough, showing examples of what happened, and what was likely to happen, along with a critique of the games mechanics compared to the known historical outcomes.

I'd like to see this sort of thing done for computer based wargaming.

Well, you did ask. :)

Yeah most of that is what I am trying to do. Probably the best example of your last paragraph is my waterloo series. I go quite a bit over the course over the course of the videos as to how awkward some of the mechanics are in the context of what the game tries to do with its historical authenticity. I.e. The cringey map. I read a whole bunch of history prior to my videos, some are better than others, my command ops series is a fairy decent example.

Thanks for the links, they will really help.

Hof...it's beyond my feeble brain to offer you any helpful ideas. But I have really enjoyed your posted videos here and on youtube (i.e, your War in the West videos). I look forward to whatever it is you come up with. Your time and efforts are appreciated.

I had a go at making at a video to describe the accessibility of WITE. Its a bit haphazard, but I am relatively happy with the format. And yes I know the music is loud, i thought lowering down to 10 percent would be bloody enough!

Nice job Hof. I agree with most of what you pointed out.  I would have rated the tutorial much lower than you did but then you included the 'road to...' scenarios as if they were tutorials which I didn't. My only suggestion would have been to comment on the Matrix forums for this game, they include many great threads regarding tactics, gameplay, etc.  Ps. I've only ever played the scenarios, the grand campaign is just too much for me to wrap my 64 year old head around.

I've mentioned this before, but Casey Calouette does an excellent series of articles on learning aspects of War in the East:

Thanks spelk....I must have missed your mention of this site before.  Have it on my favorites to look at later when I have the time.
