So this just released on steam, pretty interesting concept. Its like total war arena meets dynasty warriors meets mount and blade and produces a chinese baby.

Its a ten v ten arena game where you control about 40 troops like in total war arena, but you control a very powerful general on the ground like in dynasty warriors, the combat is also heavily mount and blade inspired where everything is done by mouse

...and its all PvP. Another disappointing online MP only game. ugh.

I though it's about WW2 Tiger Tanks
Probably give a try because it's free to play

Tpek

I'm downloading it right now, hopefully it will be good.
And there are supposed to be some PvE modes.

Starts around min. 15 (shows the tutorials and some gameplay)

So far, I'm really enjoying the game. Just got through the first tutorial. For me the controls are very intuitive and easy to pickup and play. In fact I think they are more spot on than M&B. The archer controls along with the horseback play are are good too. Game looks gorgeous in DX11 with max graphics. It's like being in a game version of two of my all-time favorite Chinese films "Red Cliff" and "Warlords" with Jet Lee. Can't wait to try out the PVE against AI bots as well as PVP. The devs say in the future that they will add the Roman Army. This one has definitely scratched an itch of the type of game I've always wanted with the time period in Chinese history. Next I've got to go through the Command Tutorial and a bigger battle. Might buy the DLC after I play more and see if the rest of the game looks to have long-term staying power with me.

So there is exclusive SP content, even if it is just skirmishing with bots?

Hope this doesn't become Pay-to-win.

Pretty cinematic tutorial.  I love that they put the slash direction indicator and the charge indicator.
Slashing weaker minions in addition to the bosses is satisfying. Though you don't take damage in the tutorial when hit.
Commanding is kinda cool too.  Pretty straight forward as opposed to Mount and Blade.

Surprise!  Rome is a faction when creating your character!  Not sure if they already modelled the Romans.  Parthians and Kushans are there too but greyed out.  Maybe some future patch will bring them in.

It seems to be ancient World of Tanks. (I was right about WW2 Tiget Tanks after all. lol)
1.  Menu layout.  Top part: prestiege, gold, select battle options.  Bottom part: your squads.
1.  Your squad is your tank.  There are different classes and unlock trees for different nations.
2.  You have different squads in your barracks with limited slots.  When they are defeated you need to replenish your squads (akin to repairing).
3.  You also have an adjutant (NPC buddy) that you can recruit. He will influence the type of formations your squad can form.
4.  When choosing an operation you can choose single player or team game (unlocks at level 5).  There is PVP (command mode or duel) and PVE (epic war) modes.  Single player doesn't seem to work.  I seem to get ported into a MP mode.  Unless I misunderstood the UI because I have PVP still selected in Single Player Mode.  Team Game must mean something else. I will only know once I get to level 5.
5.  I start off poorly equipped and die easily in battle. Grind and grind to get the good stuff. :(
6. You can join clans
7. There are mini challenges on several aspects like in World of Warships.

I like the theme and concept though.

I will specifically select Epic War PVE and see what it is all about.

Can't play PVE until a certain level.

Ok I'm now level 5.  Team Game means gathering your friends and joining a match.
The epic battle PVE is a multi-stage mission where all players are on the same side.  It's quite cinematic.  Example: battle begins with duel between generals then all out attack on a castle.
No sign of a true single player.

Duel mode is not really duel. It's a team death match in an arena where each player is a single fighter and the team that reaches the target kill count wins.

Competitive siege mode is interesting.  Attackers break through three gates until they reach the keep and kill and NPC Marshal.  They need to keep the battering ram going and breaking gates while also securing spawn points along the way.  This denies the defenders from spawning and attacking from the back of the attackers.  This also makes the re-spawn location of the attackers closer to the action.  This is crucial because there is a timer for each gate.  Siege weapons -- like catapults, ballista, and fire bombs on top of the gates -- are available.  There is also a soldier spawn ticket pool like Battlefield.  It's not consumed by player generals spawning but are consumed by your squads.  If tickets become zero, only the player generals spawn without help from their squad.  It's quite an experience defending with no more tickets and your hero /general cooperate with other generals in securing the last gate.  One thing to note.  The gates should be manually opened or closed by the defenders.  Defenders can't sally out unless they own a spawn point outside the defences if the gate is closed.  But if they forget to close it, the attackers would just easily bypass the gate.

Can you just do purely PvP match types?

It doesn't force you to do PvE modes during your "level-up" phase, does it?

Just like World of Tanks games, you chose which types you want to do.
PVE has a purpose.  It gives you some rare items (a sword and a horse which have limited time use) not found in the store.  But PVE gets boring as it is just one map so far and the items are the same though you only get it by luck.

The gameplay is rather simple, but a bit addictive.

It actually gets more involved once you unlock the many game modes.
Some strategy is involved under the hood too.  Like using the right formations on the right troops.  The choice of adjutant influences the formations that they can use.
You decide on whether to go capture locations, kill the generals (other players), or the AI marshal.  Must know when to retreat and replenish your squad.
Armour has different types.  Some are better against blunt, some against slicing, piercing, etc.
