Nef, I think you're referring to the modern version of Warfighter, not the WWII version, correct?

Best not to confuse the newcomers :)

But.. but..

Title of the thread refers to "Warfighter Modern"!

Cool! I ordered this game a while back as well. Its super fun and the game of choice for me and my buddy on our traditional steak-eatin' evenings. :) Beer, Steaks and wargames!

Well, my copy appears to have gotten lost in the mail....hopefully shows up prior to xmas since was my kids gift to me, although I am not too worried for myself, the kids will be disappointed not being able to give their "physical" gift to me.  And of course it somehow got lost at some distribution facility, fairly close to my home.....few more days left to get here.

Ugh..

Shipping quality's inevitable drop in quality through the holidays.

Hope my pending packages show up in one piece.  Without having been crushed, pierced, or disappearing completely.  :-\

Frustrating for sure, especially since it was so close....watching the tracker driving me nuts as I see the package incorrectly bounce from city to city.

Is Warfighter a true solitaire game, or is it primarily a multi-player game that can be gimmicked into single player? Thanks in advance.

Cyrano

100% solitaire.  Arguably, it's more a solitaire game than can be an hoot MP.  You're playing against the clever system, whether one or six players.

You didn't know? My Corps has already sailed to Berlin. We got there 3 days ago and we've been in the Tiergarten on the piss ever since. -- Marshal Soult, October 1806

Yup, it's totally solitaire as Cyrano said. But, it can be played with more than one player if you want, and in that case it's completely cooperative.

I'm thinking of trying it out tonight - I'm finishing up the manual. One more day of work tomorrow and then off for 1.5 weeks, thank goodness.

Great! Enjoy.
I found that reading the Manual is a little awkward. It lists the gameplay elements first and after that the gameplay sequence. I would think its more logical the other way around.
YouTube also has some tutorials / playthroughs in case you find the manual confusing.

What is the realistic entrance requirements to play this game? Just the initial game itself, or are there must-have expansions? Or..are ALL of these expansions good enough to justify, on a first day purchase?

The base game is all you need to play. You'll essentially get the U.S. versus the Germans in that one, and you'll get to play the U.S. I'd suggest just sticking with the base game and if you like it, go for the expansions, which will add a LOT of different sides to play - you can play as the Germans, Poles, Soviets, British, and can add additional gear and other stuff to your decks.

It's up to you of course if you want to get any of those expansions - it's really just a matter of taste and what does it for you. I imagine the Soviet and German expansion packs would be big for any player that wants to do some Russian Front gaming. The others, it just depends on your level(s) of interest in those theaters and participants.

The Gear expansion is good; anything that gives you more options gear-wise is great, but as mentioned, the base set is good for you to get familiar with it. I'd recommend just starting with that and if you like it, go ahead and go nuts with the expansions if you'd like. It would suck if you bought all of it and then realized you didn't enjoy the game, though I don't know of many folks that own this that DON'T like it, to be honest.
