There's a guy in my neighborhood who has a little convertible like that.  He will drive it year-round with the top down.  The winters here in Washington DC aren't super severe, but it gets below freezing plenty of times.

Good grief , does he have WD40 anti-freeze running through his veins for blood  :o he must really love his convertible , either that , or he's decided that frostbite and hyperthermia is a good way to look whilst driving around town  8) windburn on your face must be the new suntan of choice , nothing says glowing health quite like a burn  ;D

 i once rode shotgun in a Mercedes SLK, in low temperatures, but still above freezing point 
the shell-type seats were heated very comfortable, and there is a system that directed a stream of warm air from behind around the neck ...of course all the heat flows and airspeeed can be finetuned to a perfect coziness  ...when the side windows are up, there is no turbolance inside. It was much more comfy then a casual bystander may think.
Only some kind of head gear is a good idea, but a simple base cap will do, no WWI pilot gear need
That SLK with retractable hardtop was designed to enjoy to ride open top in extended seasons from early spring to late autumn, or even on a mild winter day when the sky is clear

I bet that was a great experience Mike  :) I just googled the car and it looks like a very awesome car to be driving around in  8) Personally , I get cold in a car with the heater at full blast , lol , so the idea of driving around in low tempretures with the top down doesn't in any way sound like a a lot of fun to me , I'd be an angry ice cube at the end of the ride  >:( I don't mind going for a walk in the cold because I'm moving and keeping warm , but sat still .......just doesn't appeal !! but I'd love to try that in summer , especially the coast where I live , I think it would be great to drive along there in warm weather in a car like that . Actually during summer here in my area there are quite a few classic car rallies , quite a few of those have the tops down , and it looks like a lot of fun :) but that's cool that you enjoyed it , and now I know that it can at least be done .......just not in snow though , right  :o  ;D

I used to occasionally drive my VW Cabrio w/ top down in cold weather.  No heated seats, but the heaters blew right on your hands, and the rest of you can bundle up.  Good times :)
