Well I knew it wasn't designed for 19th century battles when I bought it but  my options are limited for that time. So figured I'd give it a shot. I also bought it for the NATO versus Warsaw Pact scenarios.

I've not played it yet FJ. I've been holding out for the manual. I loved III so I'll be surprised if I don't like this one

The manual is great. I ordered mine on 12/16 and I was surprised when it arrived on 12/22. I think that I spent more time editing scenarios in III than playing them.
