Sir Slash

There's a new patch and an 8 unit DLC for Shogun Total War available. Can't wait to see the arguments here as to wether it's worth $3.25. Just missed the steam summer sale too. Some of the units look like they have bells over their heads. I thought the balloons were bad enough.  http://www.twcenter.net/

Still doesn't fix the crash with Radeon HD 7XXX series cards though.

The crazy things that the Japanese wear into battle.  They call the stuff worn at their backs sashimono.

They're too busy making DLC.

And I've found that once they've released a TW game, patched it a few times, then that's it... no more updates.   Maybe they'll prove me wrong with S2TW and fix this crashing issue, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Sir Slash

I thought they were some kind of elite Ding-Dong Samurai.

Well, if you are going to be a Ding Dong Samurai, you darn well better be elite. Otherwise all the other samurai are going to point and laugh. Even the Balloon Head Samurai.

Sometimes I think Meadbelly channels the ghost of Hunter S Thompson's odd wit while filtering out the matching inherent meanness.

Do they squish between your fingers quite easily, too?

A pity, but not surprising (sadly).

Still, I wonder why this hasn't been fixed, given it's supposed to be the game's "flagship" card.

Yeah.  Definitely feels like it's a low priority issue to CA.  There are a few tech guys that occasionally respond on the official forum, but it's mostly to ask for more DxDiag files and encourage the users to email them with "additional info".  One poster went through everyone's posts and seems to have isolated the issue.

There appears to be a strong possibility that Radeon 7XXX series cards can only run the post FOTS release of Shogun 2 on PCs with a CPU using socket 1155 config.  Those with 1156, 1366, or 2011 can't get it to run in DX11.  The poster emailed CA with these findings and all they did was forward it on to ATI.  Obviously it's a problem with the FOTS code as the game ran on all socket configs prior to the FOTS release.

Oh well, as I was typing this, I see that they've posted a new update saying that S2 games that appear "modified" (even if no mods have ever been installed) won't run.  They've posted a fix (that'll wipe all your save games) but I'm at work and won't get to test it for another 12 hours.  Hope it actually works.

And everyone's reporting that it doesn't work. (and they've deleted the "fix" from the AMd 7XXX series lockup thread and moved it to it's own thread as a generic fix).

Gusington

Despite the scary stuff posted above...I am getting the new DLC.

Wow.

Great testing there CA.  ::)

Sir Slash

I'll probably cave-in too. Not really in a Shogun mood right now.

Without. (Heavy Drugs or Ding Dongs.)

If I have a literary channel that involves wit, it's far more connected to the likes of Vonnegut and Douglas Adams.

Perhaps interesting-to-me-only, I believe that I have done so much business writing that requires me to write in someone else's voice that I am rather susceptible to channeling. I have to be very, very careful what I'm reading when I'm writing, especially in the early stages of my work. The tone and voice of works I admire can quickly invade my personal projects. This is why I tend to read "light" when I'm writing "dark" and vice versa.
