Hands down...not even close is OOTP (Out of the Park Baseball to the uninitiated).
I have had one game world going since OOTP 12/13 and I think I am currently in the year 2056 (but it may be at an end as am getting crashes with this DB and restoring from backup did not fix it).  May start the new game at the turn of the century.

I have purchase almost every version of this game since 2002.

I have at least one version of OOTP, but not knowing a thing about baseball, I have absolutely no idea how to play it.  Shame really, it looks great.

J/k but in all honesty the OOTP series is probably a perfect representation of the game today. It is all analytics and tendencies. When to start this player, when to replace that pitcher, etc.

I actually like the series but it's more because I am an analytics geek. I haven't watched an MLB game in probably a decade though.

I kind of am too, and I generally scratch that itch playing Grand Prix Racing Online.  I'm sure I'd enjoy OOTP if I could get into it, but to the uninitiated it's absolutely overwhelming.  I don't even know where to begin.

I love OOTP baseball for the historical game options.  For example, replaying the 1906 World Series. Chicago vs. Chicago. Or playing the 1927 season and watching the Yankees run over everyone else.
