Sir Slash, I agree with you.  I wouldn't mind sitting on a jury at all.  I take justice seriously, so if I found a way to shirk jury duty I'd be afraid that some idiot would take my place.

Plus I'd be delighted for an excuse not to do my job for a few days!

Careful for what you wish for. I've sat on 4 different juries over the years and the criminal ones were okay but having to decide to remove parental rights from a couple is a bit heart wrenching.

I don't doubt it.  All the more reason for someone like me to do it instead of some twit who couldn't care less.

I'm playing my first tabletop wargame in at least 25 years - Pacific Tide.

It has been a bloodbath.  The system has a 50% kill rate on die rolls and sometimes you are rolling 8-10 die.  In a massive battle of aircraft launched from Midway (3 carriers & two land based US aircraft) against Truk (5 carriers) there were 7 carriers sunk, loss of all 7 air groups, and both land based squadrons at Midway destroyed.

At the start of 1943 the Japs have 2 carriers (one without aircraft) and the USA has 2 carriers with aircraft.  Japan has control of everything North of New Guinea (which is unoccupied) and the USA has Midway, Aleutians,  Solomons, and Marshall Islands.  Every amphib operation Japan tried worked - but the allies kept rolling 4-6 and whacking the invaders and Japan is short of troops with most way out of position.

The way the map is setup, you pretty much have stage troops through the Marshalls, Solomons, or New Guinea to cut off the Japanese oil supplies from Sumatra and Borneo.  Wake has a one unit infantry limit and Midway has a two unit limit.

Lots of fun and a very high naval and amphibious casualty rate - which is pretty similar to what happened in 1941-1942.

First time playthrough and completed it in about 8 hours.  Can probably play a second time in 3-4 hours.

An amazingly stupid oversight and blind luck gave Japan the victory.  I thought I had to take Okinawa, but instead I had to take everything else except Okinawa to win.  Japan ended up with one damaged fleet in Singapore - which prevented an amphibious landing which gave Japan the victory.  The allies could have easily won except they lost sight of what actually gives victory in the game.

Really nice design.  There are enough random elements that there should be pretty good replayability.  Amazingly deadly.  Only two amphibious landings by either side were done without taking casualties.  Even when the defender had one or two die they often rolled hits with both leading to bloody advances with the winner taking the island chain with one whole infantry unit.

Watched Top Gun again yesterday on tv and now I would like to fly the F-14 in DCS.

However this is one of the planes I don't have and it is one of the few planes not on sale ...

So the weekend will be DCS without the F-14 (or with if I lose control once more).

Well, take some tums and push through "Iron Eagle". Then pick up the new F-16 module. Problem solved!

So your advice is I watch another movie and then buy 2 $80 modules  <:-).

Maybe I'll have to pass but just because Tums doesn't exist over here   :).

Nah...it was more of a f-16 instead of. The F-14 is hard to learn and to fly I think.
And Iron Eagle requires a strong dose of whatever you have that keeps the stuff in your stomach from coming up. Never has there been a less realistic movie. Star Wars is closer to reality. But hey, the F-16 (except it's endless magazine of weapons) is a star

I anticipated the Tomcat like you couldn't believe. Some of the pre-release trailers showing it in flight actually made me tear up it was so God damn beautiful and having the chance to fly it like this was a childhood dream come true, but to be totally honest, the Hornet spoiled it for me. I found the F-14 to be extremely difficult to learn and fly coming from an advanced digital and fly-by-wire system. I just couldn't get comfortable going back decades in technology.

Still, many people swear by it and it is a must have module. Eventually, I will learn it...

This revised buyer guide for the F-14 by the Grim Reapers was released this weekend and just in time to stop me from getting it.  It reflects your point of view : the F-14B gets a 4 out of 5 score for difficulty.
I must resist until the next sale when this beauty will be included.

Well, they dismissed me from the Jury Panel. I can't understand it, I smiled and everything. Maybe it was because I smiled all...the...time? At everything? And everybody?  :o I thought it would make them happy.

Was it your "I'm a friendly grandfather :)" or your "I'm a creepy senior citizen who wants to fry them all" smile?   :)
