Two weeks ago 2 Kiwis were killed in action in a firefight, now 3 more were killed by IED yesterday, one was female. All of this is in Bamiyan province which is supposed to be one of the safest places there. When I read about the 3 deaths this morning it was a like a kick to the guts. One of the killed soldiers from 2 weeks ago was the great-great grandson of Col. William Malone, C.O. of the Wellington Battalion which captured Chunuk Bair and was one of the heroes of the Gallipoli campaign in 1915.

RIP Fellas (and felless), and Kia Kaha.
Gen. Montgomery: "Your men don't salute much."
Gen. Freyberg: "Well, if you wave at them they'll usually wave back."
