Looks like it's "so far, so good".  There's definitely still work to be done, but it sounds like the game is shaping up pretty nicely overall.  Here's hoping Dan & co. can get the kinks worked out before release!

It is shaping up well.  Its a very enjoyable game so far.

Ah, that's right, you're in the beta too.  I'd forgotten that. 

Do you agree with the preview's author that it's not too fast-paced?  With StarDrive being an RTS title, that was one of my bigger concerns.

Apparently this will be available to pre-order soon, with the beta phase nearing its end.  I'm really excited for it after watching more recent videos!  Anyone here in the know?

So your opinion hasn't changed then?  Good.  This is close to the top of The List for me.

Has not changed.  I haven't played that much since the last three or four alpha updates were released, but I really enjoyed playing it.  I have not even really explored many of the options for planetary development and ground combat, so just exploring and designing/building ships was pretty fun.

Just a little while longer til I have Bison's old PC running again, and I can finally play this bitch.  Gah!  Hate waiting...

Huw, feel free to check out their forums if you like.  You'll find the beta-testers' comments are generally very positive. 

I think the biggest problem Dan (the main developer) is facing right now is limiting himself to bug-hunting and not adding new features/content...because you can tell he badly wants to do the latter!  (I think it's only the imminent release of the pre-order/open beta that's giving him the necessary discipline to polish and squash bugs instead.)  :)  He's very responsive to -- and encouraging of -- tester feedback, more so than almost any game developer I've yet seen.

Cool, he sounds like Chris at Arcen Games.  I've also noticed that StarDrive is on Desura - bonus!
