So, I did get a download link to version 6 and gave it a play, when I posted here a couple years ago.  It was fun for a bit, but this is one of those games that seems great on paper, lacking on playthrough.  At this point, it serves more as a digital museum than a functional game, if you're a Napoleonic fan, that's not necessarily a bad thing.  For playability, scourge with all the mods is better.

That's a pretty good assessment. When I last looked at it, artillery batteries coudl wipe each other out in minutes at extreme range, the sound effects grated on the ear, and battles started with units deployed across the countryside miles away from each other, and deployment areas didn't even allow for armies to deply historically e.g. no Russian units in the Raevski Redoubt at Borodino. When this was pointed out, the developer said that this was a result of the game's supply system, as if that was a satisfactory explanation. The interface was also a lesson in what not to do; it seems to be constantly fighting with rather than assisting the user.

It's a pity, because the game had some great ideas, like allowing the player to define doctrine, and also IIRC, allowing potentially interesting match-ups to be made out of any exisitng combination of maps and orders of battle e.g. have the French army from Eylau fight the Austrian army from Marengo over the battlefield of Jena. Unfortunately I got the impression that the creator spent more time listening to fanboys than he did listening to bug reports. I wouldn't touch that game with a bargepole now, unless it had been taken over and overhauled by someone new.
