Got to be honest, IL2 has the best VR implementation of any combat sim, I very much like the flight models as well but the terrain is absolute garbage.  The duplications and boring textures making flying any amount of time impossible for me.   All of their maps looked the same, Kuban was a little better but still suffered from the lack of variation and I could tell it was an IL2 map.   I fear Korea might be the same, while the screenshots on the site look great only a couple show the terrain and it looks like a duplicate of the other IL2 games.  They need more variation in ground textures and colors otherwise it's going to suffer the same IL2 feel I have with their current games.

I wish I could take everything about IL and simply add in the DCS maps :)   At least for me the maps are what make or break the game and what keeps me coming back to one over the other.

I'd have preferred not seeing that  The pilot gliding across the ground was disturbing.  The left arm of the pilot in the cockpit was downright creepy.  If they focus on flight model and plane graphics it could bring me back into flight Sims after 20 years away.

Oh come on dude...you're being way too picky.

In light of the comparisons to Mig Alley, I thought some might enjoy this recent review of that old game:

So is it crewable / flyable or is it just AI like IL2 or dcs ?

This is a good question. My hunch from the latest development blog is that it will be AI only. But don't give up all hope because I'm not entirely sure.

EDIT: in response to a question on Facebook, the devs said it will be AI only intially, but "may" be made flyable "depending on available time". Booooooo.

Early access release is tomorrow. I've been playing the beta and overall I've been impressed. I'm very optimistic. The graphics and sounds are good, bomb and destructive effects are immersive and there are some really cool features with campaigns, maps, squadron management and the interactive museum. UI and control settings have been drastically improved over Sturmovik. Setting up my controls in the former game was always a chore.  Not so in Korea.

I love the jets of the era and there are so few opportunities to fly them. I'm very excited for this one and it can only get better from here.

Just looking at an enigma video and I have to say I do love the il2 series interfaces and some of the nice cocckpit instrument menu schematics.

The only real "shortfall" I see at this point is the lack of full-fidelity, interactive cockpits. For some, this is meaningless, for others, it is a serious limitation. Personally, it is a feature I would like to have, but with the early jets, there aren't that many buttons to push or levers to pull anyway. Beyond cold start, once your wheels come off the ground the absence of interactivity fades away. I do not see it as a big deal.

Additionally, there are some aspects of the flight modeling that clearly still need work.

Still, its clearly shaping up to be an engrossing sim and when and if they add naval aviation...my God... :buck2:

Most of my 1950s era interest in aviation began with the century series and the F-100. However, this sim has sparked my interest in the F-80 and F-84. I've bought a few books about these aircraft after realizing that there wasn't much in my library. Those holes have now been filed.

For me interactive cockpit is a must. I will probably stick to DCS because of it. I own 3 of the korean war modules.
