Gaming laptop?

Hey team.  As you may have noticed in the Seapower thread, my poor Asus gaming laptop is starting to show its age and I'm now looking to hit a black Friday deal if I can.  I've had very good luck with Asus, both laptop and desktop, so I'm biased to that brand (stick with what you know and what works). 

I'm looking at this one, which sounds pretty good for the price, and is 28% off right now:

Thoughts?

The upgraded version has an Intel i9 Lake, whatever that is, but it's $500 more and I'm not sure I need that much of an upgrade right now.  I'm a buy once, cry once guy, but $500 is a lot of cash.

This would be option 2, at $200 more, but this would be about as much as I can spend right now.

Big difference appears to be the display (2.5k) and the processor is an AMD.  I genuinely don't keep up with these things anymore, so I have no idea which is better (which is why I'm asking the pros).

It's also got a 4070 over a 4060. I think this one is worth the $200 extra. I'm not sure about this particular AMD, but I know AMDs new 9xxx series is the best processor in the world currently. It beats out the intel i9 14gen. Only things id look to upgrade are hard drive space and maybe go to 32gigs of ram...that will cost you a few hundred bucks, though,

Creeping back up on that extra $500. {g} But looks like more bang for the buck that way.

The 4070 over 4060 makes a big difference. Keep in mind the mobile chips are designated too high. A mobile 4070 performs roughly as a desktop 4060. With a mobile 4060 you end up in meagre land in the future pretty quickly.

I also prefer the AMD CPUs in laptops these days. The efficiency cores in Intels are outright lame and can sometimes interfere with even framerates.

In no event get the one with 4060 and i9 unless you have productivity applications that need the CPU.
