Yesterday, we told our realtor to put in a price change on our house. We raised the price a little over 3%. I would have gone for 10% if my wife had agreed.

The realtor has been whining non-stop almost going as far as to suggest that it is up to her to grant us such a change. In the absence of a sale, this was the most fun I have had yet! :)

So, the agent wasn't talking to my wife for almost 2 days, but then she get a showing request for tomorrow at the new, higher, price. All of a sudden, she picked up the phone and was schmoozing with my wife for 20 minutes.

When I was younger it was used car salesman who were the sc*m of the Earth. But I think they have now been overtaken by realtors!

You ought to really screw with your agent and ask her if, since she was so very very opposed to the 3% increase in price, if she is ok with taking her commission based on the original, lower amount  8)

Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

There was one agent and her buyers who going on their 4th round of showings.  With reasons for coming back such as "we want to see how it look on a cloudless day" ...  Each time she came back, she would start with the nickel and diming; asking our agent "Do they have any 'wiggle room' in the price?".

When we raised the price, I told our agent to tell their agent that we just gave them the "wiggle room" they were asking for.

This is such BS.  Your agent has a legal obligation to follow your lawful orders.  She could have her license revoked for this sort of action.  Agents can advise, and can even decide to drop representation, but they must follow lawful orders.

Prices are up in many markets.  But the price increases over the bottom in most markets are not very great.  Prices in most US markets are nowhere close to where they were prior to the crash.

This was part of the business press readings I had on the first exam in real estate that I just gave.

ahhhh OK, does this rebound (of sorts) reflect relatively unfettered market forces? or is the other non-invisible hand of government subsidies play into this?
