Who wants dibs on being the first to go up in it to the top?  [Hint:  NOT ME!]

Actually, looks like this is just another area where the USA is being left behind.
Government is not the solution to our problem—government is the problem.   Ronald Reagan
The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.   Thomas Jefferson
During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.   George Orwell  The truth is quiet...It's the lies that are loud.   Jesus Revolution
If you ever find yourself in need of a safe space then you're probably going to have to stop calling yourself a social justice warrior. You cannot be a warrior and a pansy at the same time   Mike Adams (RIP Mike)

being build and being finished are two very different things.
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

I see where the prefab steel boxes would be just fine long term.
it does however limit the design.

Mr. Bigglesworth

Whatever the scoffs, if they pull this off it means they can ramp building anything up fast if there is some squabble over the South China Seas.

I don't know why people would want to live in such a place.

building the shell of a building is nothing compared to building warships and combat aircraft.

I'm not sure China is well known as a bastion of free choice.

I was thinking more along the lines of jet factories.

What you talkin about Joey Ray!? We get lots of choices "made in China". How many parts on your computer were not made there, along with all their competing brands?

any future conflict anywhere is going to be to short to build factories and mass produce anything.

Well, then let's hope is a war of bureaucrats and regulations.

I doubt it would go that way with China. They arnt out for a nuke exchange. More likely it would be a limited conventional war. They would want it to be like the Vietnam or Stan of the Sea. I cant see them doing anything that would threaten their long lived civilization.

Things get sticky with Taiwan.

But China's first move to challenge the US is to get a blue water navy of substance.

I don't know that the US and China have to cross swords. There are plenty of good reasons for us not to, but the best way to avoid conflict is to get them to start following the law (IP enforcement) and to get a more democratic system of rule. Toss in a lack of change in Taiwan's status and the US doesn't have a lot of reason to be unhappy.

Japan, however, is a different issue. There are lots of small rocks poking their noses out of the water that are being called "islands" and some of these have valuable resources (like oil) that can spark dispute. That could make things go south in a hurry.

They might go no further than a propaganda war via fortune cookies.

I read recently that Japan is moving to replace China as the #1 bank for USA.
